Let's try to give some helpful advice to newbies. Please try to stick strictly to advice on this thread. I will start first.

There's a "Like" button in the lower right hand corner of each post. If you like whatever the poster said, instead of just replying "+1" or "I agree", you can use like as an alternative. This way, the poster will actually be more directly awarded by his effort/idea/contribution. Start sharing the Like!

For quick navigation, click on the arrow at the bottom/top right of each thread. This will pop-out the quick navigation menu.

If you are not familiar with English or other posters are posting on non-English, there's a quick translation button (red on the left hand side) on the toolbar located at the bottom of the page. There are a lot of languages to choose from but right now it is still a bit buggy and the translation might stop in the middle of the page.

Also, translation from English->language A->English will look funny. If you have to translate two languages, doing a refresh is probably a good idea so the page is reset to English

That is a great tip! I eventually would have figured out that (in about two years!).

Run your mouse all over the pages, you'll find links and options that you didn't suspect were there. Those are often very useful tools.

Take a quick self guided tour- click each menu item, including the little drop down arrows, and see where they take you.

Is there an FAQ or wiki that lays all of this info out? As a brand new member (and newcomer to the FF subculture in general) I think it would be super helpful, although I've enjoyed doing a little experimenting as Gargoyle suggests.

If you wish to participate in any one of the community-wide chats, you need to click on the chatroom window icon on the bottom navigation bar. When you do you will be presented with the following window:
    chat.jpg
You want to click on popout before entering any chatroom, as this will ensure that you will stay in the chat if you decide to navigate to another page on milepoint.

Clicking "Reply" on a specific post will quote it... you can quote multiple posts in this way.

Clicking on someone's Status Points will show you how they got 'em. Clicking on their avatar pops up a mini-profile without leaving the thread.

And if you don't want people to see the status points break down, you can set your privacy settings on your profile details

Status points update is not real time. It is only awarded once per hour (at least for now). Right now the you have to wait till hour + 40 to receive you status points. So be patient if you have acquired enough posts/likes/whatever and still haven't received the status points.

That navigation bar is technically known as a bread crumb trail. Something I just learned here from Randy last week.

Noted this just this morning. Sometimes you want to mark a forum as read. OK - there is a link/button for that in the top right area of the forum. Cool think I noted this morning is this. Say you refreshed the screen say an hour ago and it showed you a list of threads with new posts. I choose to mark the forum as read. What happens? Well it does that - sort of - it marks it read as of that point in time for the threads on the screen. After the refresh if shows the threads that were updated since the last refresh. Sort of a neat feature I think. To totally mark as read you need to do it twice - but I would rather to that and have this option to see what has happened since my last page refresh.

    Hope this ramble makes sense?

So how do you add friends to actually use the chat? haven't figured that one out yet.
