This is for award travel over the Atlantic to/from Chicago. Which has the best in flight experience?
UA F, AC C, LH C in that order.
Totally agree. Unless LH starts to fly new 747-8 to ORD sometime soon... then LH C would be close to UA F.
Even then, I'd still fly AC C.
I would take the new LH C non-stop over the extra connection on AC C.
regardless of connections, direct aisle access on AC trumps all the 'hop/be hopped by' the neighbour' options.
The AC connection through YYZ is pretty seamless and you will, depending on flight chosen be on a 777. AC's TATL service is pretty darn good especially to a hub like FRA.
On an eastbound TATL flight I get on board, sit in my seat, eat, sleep and wake up when it is time to land. I generally get a window and I have no problem at all with having someone sitting in the aisle seat. LH C and sCO configs of UA C have middle pairs with no one climbing over you.
And the extra sleep time, no connection time/stress (yes, I've done US->EU via YYZ so I know the experience) and fewer chances for things to go wrong are reasons I'd still skip the AC option versus new LH C.
