Indeed! And lucky that the final destination was just Oakland so that busing was an option rather than having to shuffle them to other flights or come up with an empty 767.

Actually, Oakland was the departure. So they were bussed back to their departure city for a later flight. Since they have so few flights out of Oakland to HNL I am surprised that they bussed them back.

True. You'd think it would be easier to keep them at SFO and rebook them on another airline.

DOH! You're right! Then that's extra inconvenient. I don't know why, my brain read it as HNL-Oakland. Fitting them into seats from SFO surely would have been easier than bussing them back to Oakland to put them onto flights from there?! Unless maybe they were able to get another plane to Oakland to replace the one with the engine failure.

But if they could get a plane to Oakland, they would know how to get one to SFO! Maybe landing fees or gate charges made it more economical to inconvenience everyone and bus them back to OAK.

According to this article, passengers from this flight arrived at HNL at 4 am this morning.

Additional information from the Honolulu Star Advertiser:

The 203 passengers were bused back to Oakland. Those in the Oakland area had the option of returning home while others were given hotel rooms. They were given meal vouchers and a $300 travel credit.
They departed on a 1:30 a.m. Monday flight and arrived in Honolulu at about 4 a.m.
