I had the same sort of note, minus the tip request, at a Hampton Inn in Shelby NC. A little odd, but very endearing.

At Harrah's, I just get a little envelope for me to leave a tip.

And one time, my house cleaner took the money left for the catsitter (labeled as such) and left a note thanking me for the tip. She was not invited back.

I have had a few times when housekeeping has left a thank you note. Usually a "thank you" and sometimes a smiley. Its a nice gesture.

Pardon my ignorance, but who and or why would you tip housekeeping?

Taxis and dining establishments where the service has been good is fine. But performing basic services which form part of the cost of providing a hotel room is having a laugh.

That's a good question, and there is a 3 page thread discussing it! ;)

In my experience notes from housekeeping seem to be the rule rather than the exception lately. To me it's their not-so-subtle way of asking/reminding us to tip.

I usually leave a tip and a note at the end of my stay.

Many times if I'm going to a property in which I'm a frequent guest and the maid/housekeeper recognizes me, we speak. Other than that, I've never had one leave me a note.

I think that was very nice.
I have a question. Why wouldn't you tip the housekeeper?

They are providing you with a service and many times we ask them for things above what is included in the room rate. $3, $4, $5 bucks after a multi-day stay is appropriate in my mind.
