A few award trips I'm looking at involve stopovers and I am trying to figure out how many miles I'd need to do them. For example, if I were to route a trip from the U.S. to VLI (Port Vila, Vanuatu) via AKL, I assume I would need to use the higher mileage for the Australia / New Zealand round trip vs. the mileage needed for Oceania. A slightly more complicated case is ROR (Koror, Palau) where there is a Continental route via GUM (keeping things firmly in Oceania, but requiring more stops and more time), but I might prefer the Asiana route via ICN.

I'm less interested in the details for these specific examples than a general methodology for figuring this all out. A method for deciding what I want to do is another matter :)
