Has gift cards used as Amex Plat's $200 incidental fee ever failed you?

A ton of Amex PLT holders use the $200 fee for GC purchases. From reading throughout the web, it seems it works for all of us including myself, even though technically it's not supposed to work with GC's. Out of curiosity, has it ever failed you?

This year I bought a ticket right after the anniversary date (United.) A day later I bought a $100 UA gift card. When I logged in to check for the credit, it had already posted based on the $270 ticket I bought for the full $200 reimbursement, so couldn't post for the GC. Needless to say, I was fine with this.

I bought gift certificates on AS and they didn't count (they quit issuing gift cards)

I bought two $100 gift certificates on United.com two weeks ago and they were reimbursed within days.

the AMEX official rules exclude gift certificates. I called and got $75 reimbursed for "checked bags" fees instead (but I used the $200 gift certificates up on 3 flights we bought, but didn't get the triple points I would have normally got using the gold card instead). I still have to find another $125 worth of AS fees to get reimbursed this year.

It must not work for AS then unfortunately. =( AFAIK, it's been working for everyone on AA and UA.

FWIW, I spent around $30 at an AA lounge late last year, SM Amex, and they HAPPILY credited the $30 even though they well know that purchases in lounges are not part of the incidental fees.

Upgrades are not covered either but I upgraded at the gate once and got credit. I hadn't planned on it but at the end of the day I got the $200.

Did you send a SM to Amex for the $95 purchase to see if they would take it off?

I did not because the airline fee reimbursement is not supposed to be available for gift certs. I'm concerned that if I complain about not getting the credit I shouldn't be getting in the first place they'd reverse the other two credits I shouldn't have gotten.

I did use them previously for 500-miles stickers on AA.needed 8 stickers once and bought 1-2-5 to check if they credit.no issues with the first two transactions but not for the 5 stickers one.sent a DM to amex and they took care of it the same day

Anybody have an update on this for UA gift certs? I bought a $100 one, just like last year, but the reimbursement credit still hasn't posted to my account 7 days later. I'm starting to get a little nervous! With my elite status, I don't think I can rack up $200 in actual fees this year (much reduced travel).

I waited and waited for the credit. First time around the fee was deducted within a couple of days. This time I waited. When I called, Amex said I had to give it at least 2 weeks. I waited.
On the 15th day, I called. They needed to be pushed. ;)

I would suggest answering their questions carefully. ;) The credit showed up in my account a few days later.
