Earlier today, my wife stopped by a CVS in SoCal which we know to carry quite a few VR's and has allowed us to purchase them with a credit card. However, this time, she was not allowed to purchase them using a credit card.

The cashier did not mention to her whether it was a new corporate policy so I figured I'd check here to see if anyone has run into the same problem?

I'll be stopping at a CVS this evening to try my luck and will update this with my results.

I just picked up 2 last night. My statement just ended so I'll be going by tonight to pickup some more at a different one.

If they won't take them at the front cashiers, try the pharmacy. You'll usually be able to buy them there. Yes you may have to wait in line.

We don't even get debit here in CT. Cash only -- they killed off my other option of using my SunTrust Delta card.

It's always been a store by store policy. All my local ones went cash only a few months ago :(

Picked one up no problem. The cashier did ask me if I was doing this for miles. I said no, I use it on my prepaid Amex when I travel. He said that he was talking to someone about why and the guy said miles.

I live in So Cal too and I've also noticed that CVS stores in the area are now demanding cash.

No problem using credit cards in S. FL at CVS. In fact, they didn't even ask to see my ID yesterday.

Still working at CVS in DC. Also, some 7-Elevens are now stocking VRs and accepting credit cards.

Purely for scientific reasons I ran a test tonight and didn't encounter any problems.

I ended up purchasing 2 early this morning at a CVS in the Raleigh-Durham area. Seems to still work at the store I go to. Appears this may be a store by store policy then... and hopefully not a slow national roll out.

I've had no problem in DC/MD suburbs. Multiple locations. I'll stop twice a day and buy 2 each time.

It's definitely store by store, no matter what they tell you. There's no "national memo" or "IRS restrictions." It is simply what that store decides to do. It could be caused by any number of factors, but the overarching one seems to be, "Hmm, there's something weird going on here that I don't understand. Let's place some restrictions on that."

My local CVSs just went from unlimited VRs per day to max 1K per day, which is fine, since I have several in the area. My guess is that a district manager saw an unusual pattern, couldn't quite figure out what was causing it and decided "better safe than sorry."

Unfortunately, it's one of those things.

Doesn't the bonus require "pay at the pump?"

That's precisely my question. I know my penfed gas card is only pay at the pump. Anybody out there provide some clarity?

I'm in Norwalk and I've been to two CVSs and 2 Walgreens and they've refused.

And pretty much everything, including GreenDot.
