Funny that they'd offer prime when they already offer ShopRunner. Or perhaps they are trying to corner the 2-day shipping niche?
I had no idea Amazon was "selling" credit cards, too.
There may be a problem with the Amazon's marketing clout, as they somewhat control the content and format of credit card ads. I recall reading comments under some different card on Amazon, that users who applied from that ad did not receive the promised benefits.
Message From Customer Service
I do understand your concern and we appreciate the time you have taken to bring this to our attention.
American Express is offering new Card Members of select American Express Cards a statement credit of $79 plus tax as reimbursement for the initial annual Amazon Prime membership fee.
Unfortunately, existing Amazon Prime memberships, as well as Amazon Student, Amazon Mom, and other promotional or discounted Prime memberships, aren’t eligible to receive the statement credit as part of the Amazon Prime Offer from American Express.
If you have questions about offer eligibility or how to apply, please contact American Express directly (800-528-4800) or visit www.americanexpress.com/primeofferFAQ.
I hope this information helps. We hope to see you again soon.
Funny you asked, this is what they emailed me back when I asked them this very question earlier this week.
I was a Amex Plat mem (just cancelled mid January), prior to cancelling I had Amex credit me the $79 Amazon Prime fee (early Dec) after I read they were offering it as a benefit on one of the travel blogs . There was no issue, got the full credit in 48 hrs and used the prime to ship all my holiday gifts. I cancelled the Plat card but still have the Prime.
