Gunmen fire on plane at Pakistan's Peshawar airport

Gunmen fired on a Pakistan International Airlines plane as it was landing in the northern Pakistani city of Peshawar on Tuesday night, killing a woman on board and injuring three crew members in the third incident at a Pakistani airport this month. Reports say they were aiming at the fuel tanks and cockpit.

Flight PK 756 was carrying 178 passengers traveling from Saudi Arabia when it came under attack as it was preparing to land, policeman Asghar Khan said at the airport.

The plane was hit by six bullets, police said, killing the Pakistani woman and narrowly missing the captain. At least one bullet struck the plane's engine, police said.

The woman's daughter was sitting next to her when she was shot in the head, PIA official Mohammad Kifayatullah Khan said.

A bit more info. Reports say it was an Airbus 310-324ET. Emirates and some other airlines are reconsidering their flights to Peshawar, it looks like commercial traffic will be suspended, at least temporally. Government forces have detained about 200 people, so it sounds like they're just casting wide fishing nets hoping to get lucky.
