Hmm but isnt the whole point of an RC the service that RC gives you. This is just access to the spa/pool ... and @ $25 fee.

....without paying for an overnight @ the RC, paying instead 129USD for the Courtyard, plus the 25USD for the pool, spa. It's the difference that makes this deal work for some. I presume the Courtyard doesn't have a pool, plus the RC offers a better gym with Spa attached.

Who would pay $75 to go to the RC pool/gym?

That's why they offer it to Courtyard guests for 25USD.

Well that's what I don't get though... maybe I'm missing something, but it's kind of vague. The $75 fee for "non guests" is that for people off the street? And if so, who are these people?

Personally, I can't say that I've ever woken up at home and said "you know what, I feel like paying $75 to use the pool/gym at the RC today"

I think it's there to deter the riffraff from intermingling with the upper crust.

You mean like the credit cards that give you elite airline perks for $95 a year? :)

What was finally done to the RC after the Katrina cleanup? IIRC there were two RCs in the same historic building, one called something like RC New Orleans and the other Maison Blanche or something. Is one of these now the Courtyard? Or did they put a totally new Courtyard into the same building, lower floors perhaps and perhaps cannibalizing some RC rooms?

I'm not sure but I was completely unimpressed by that RC when I went there maybe 2-3 years ago. I switched alligiances since and stayed at the W the last couple of times I've been back.

  11. in that case why offer it at all? i would have thought the risk of bringing in people off the street not paying for a room wouldn't be worth the effort, i understand the $25 option for their sister property, that makes a lot of sense

A number of luxury hotels permit non guests to use facilities for a fee. In some places, you book a spa service as an outsider and then use the pool and gym for the rest of the say. Other places let you pay a daily fee for resort facilities. At some properties, this can be a good deal.

OTOH, some properties are emphatic that their facilities are only for guests. For example the Amrita (spelling?) Spa at Raffles Singapore is only for hotel guests; others cannot use this as a way to get access to private areas of the property.

Nice additonal revenue stream if someone is willing to pay the $75.
