Piedmont Triad International Airport holds two concourses in a single terminal building. The North Concourse (Gates 20-34) is home to Delta, Continental, and Allegiant. It has a CNBC store and a Pizza Hut/Dunkin Donuts/Sam Adams Pub for concessions. There are many gates that are not in use, as this concourse was the home for Skybus and the jet bridges were removed to accommodate the stairs.

The South Concourse (Gates 40-51) houses US Airways, United, and American. Similar to the North Concourse, it has the same food, Kitty Hawk News, and a US Airways club. Gates 46 and 51 require passengers to go down stairs and exit the building to access their planes.

The main terminal building houses ATM's, a food court, a Natty Greene's Bar (great local brewery), a PGA Pro Tour Shop, Bookstore, and Arcade. These features are in between the check-in counters on the upper level.

The Airport has a central parking deck surrounded by a surface lot on both sides. Parking in the deck costs $8 a day, while the surface lots cost $6 a day. There are no off-airport parking locations, however quite a few hotels in the area offer a special park and fly rate for guests.

    Car Rentals
All rental car companies are located on the bottom floor of the main terminal building. Although some cars for their best customers are located in front of the terminal building, most of the vehicles are parked just past the end of the North Concourse.

Although an extremely small airport, it offers a small US Airways Club on the South Concourse, which is accessible to members, Star Alliance Gold Passengers (see your particular program for any restrictions), and those who purchase a one-day pass. Depending on the time of day the desk agent may also be working the bar, and you have to be buzzed in to access the club.

PTI has an on property Marriott hotel located on the far side of the parking area from the terminal. It is a full service Marriott with basic meeting facilities, and restaurant options. The hotel provides a shuttle to the terminal, and there are no walkways to the hotel.

All of the other airport hotels are located off NC 68, except for the Clarion which is located off Guilford College Rd. There are also many hotels located off West Wendover Ave. however these properties may not offer a shuttle to the airport as these are not considered airport area hotels.

    Interesting Trivia
The current terminal building was originally built to serve as the main hub for Piedmont Airlines and consolidate their facilities between Greensboro and Winston Salem. They instead chose CLT to be their main hub, which continues as an active hub for Piedmont successor US Airways.

The airport has served as the hub for two ill-fated airlines: Continental Lite and Skybus. Many of the jetbridges on the North Concourse were removed for Skybus and because of the lack of passenger traffic at the airport, they have not been replaced.

One other parking option is the valet parking offered by USA Airport Parking in between the drop off areas for US/AA and DL/UA. Rate is $13 a day. Rather convenient . Then again, so is the deck.
