    Ground Transportation at O'Hare

There are a number of ways to get to and from O'Hare International Airport. Located just 17 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, O'Hare International Airport is accessible via local mass transit lines, regional trains and buses, downtown and suburban shuttles and interstate highways. Most ground transportation access areas are located at the main entrance for each terminal.
The CTA Blue Line is a fast and convenient way to travel to and from the airport, avoiding traffic. Metra and other regional train and bus information may be obtained using the links below.

Note that there are rules governing differences between city and suburban taxi's, and rates can vary if you use a suburban cab to a city location or vice versa. I'm not up on how these currently play out, perhaps someone could post the details?

If you're headed into the city and you're set on taking a cab, its often easiest to just take a cab from the taxi line. It will cost you $35-$45 depending on how far into the city you are going. City cabs charge a noticeable fee to drive out to the suburbs (it changes and I can't remember what it is these days). Suburban taxi's must be called for a scheduled pick-up because the cabs in the terminal taxi lines are all City cabs. Your best bet when headed out to the burbs is to call one of the suburuban companies in advance and let them know what your travel plans are. The only one I've ever used was American Taxi but I'm sure there are others (Maybe we should update the OP with a seperate section for city cabs and suburban cabs).

I added 303 taxi which serves the entire metro area. American taxi also serves the suburbs.

I've used both American and 303, liked them both, but it's been about 6 years since I used them. Where I live now, the taxi's want $70, so I just drive and use Park'n'jet, or my wife drops me off.

Which brings to mind- we should add long term parking info to this forum; this isn't really the thread for it, but eventually we'll have a consolidated ORD/MDW wiki...

    Park'n'jet site: http://www.parknjetchicago.com/

Some info on parking, and some coupons, on this site:
    http://www.longtermparking.com/illinois.htm

Some people use the hotel parking lots, and you can get good rates from them, but I don't think the cars are as fenced in and protected as they are at park'n'jet or some of the others. Also, the different city lots have different rates, depending on how close in you are.

If you're using the city short term lot to pick up someone, there are pedestrian bridges from the 4th floor to the terminal, much quicker than going to the ground floor and taking the passageways to the terminal.

I've used the Thrifty lot for long term parking. Its $10 a day (after taxes and fees) and is about 4 miles from the airport. They will shuttle you over to the airport for your outbound flight but its by no means fast, so definitely plan on arriving earlier than normal to account for the shuttle commute. As part of the reservation, you provide them with your return information. They pick you up at your terminal and take you back out to the lot where you car is running and ready for you to make a quick exit. I loved the service but its definiitely not for everyone.

It looks like Omega Shuttle fares have changed a lot since Feb '11...unless I'm missing something on their website (which is entirely possible), they're showing a $46 fare MDW-ORD. Not sure if that's RT or OW?

Coach USA is now $23 OW or $43 RT (which makes me think the $46 Omega fare must be RT?)
