    Hi Guys!

I am starting an "idea thread" where we can report routes that generally have higher cash fares but you can redeem for relatively few Avios. Avios are relatively easy to get between AMEX Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards as transfer partners. Let's get creative!

    My Finds:

JFK-YUL (on AA) in Y for 4,500 Avios one way
SAN-HNL (on AS) in Y for 12,500 Avios one way
NRT-KIX (on JL) in Y for 4,500 Avios one way

Let's quote all prices for economy. Business is 2x economy price and First is 3x economy price. This keeps everything on the same level and easy to compare.

I can't wait to hear more routes!

    Found another!

SCL-IPC (on LA) 12,500 Avios in Y one way

Notoriosuly expensive fares since they monopolize the route!

    Also:

IPC-PPT (on LA) 12,500 Avios in Y one way

SFO-LAX - 4500 each way. Can be useful for last minute flights (availability often comes up last minute)

    Thanks!

I find that true with a lot of AA routes. I got a last minute MIA - ATL a few days out fort recent birthday trip.

    Others I have seen:

    DTW-LGA 4500 Avios each way
    ATL-LGA 7500 Avios each way
    ATL-ORD 4500 Avios each way
    MIA-LGA 7500 Avios each way
    MIA-EYW 4500 Avios each way

Also remember: use Avios for mileage run or other award flight positioning!

I just used 4500 Avios to book a ticket for a relative one way on AA LGA-CMH (Columbus, OH). The paid ticket cost was over $300.

STL - MSY is 4500 each way. Not the best but still a good deal.

Any intra-Caribbean AA flight from SJU is 4500 (plus rather high taxes in some instances). Eligible for $ + points as well at a pretty good "exchange" rate. I think I just paid 9000 + ~$270 in taxes (and the cash component of the $ + points) for two people SJU-PTP-SJU. Would have been ~$1100 to buy the tickets, so the 9000 BA cut ~$800 from our cost.

Kitchener/Waterloo/Toronto YKF/YYZ-ORD Chicago, 9000 miles in Y, and retail $336~$360 for my recent dates

even NYC-ORD was surprisingly $$$ ($400~$600 USD), then 9000 Avios would be very good use

    Alaska Airlines too!

Most points from Seattle. I would assume most points from ANC within Alaska too.

    SEA-PDX/LAX/SFO/SAN are handy.

    SEA-STS or SEA-SMF for 4500/ow instead of 7500/ow for SFO/SJC/OAK.

Perhaps some enterprising person can mash up Google maps with an overlay of different Avios requirements so you can move things around for short / medium / long haul.

Say similar to what that "radius around point" does, with major airports listed in concentric circles based on Avios requirements.

I would but I'm entirely too lazy now. :)

SEA-SBA too. Good value on a sometimes very expensive route.

I frequently use avios for YYZ-NYC, 9000RT Y/18k in J is a far better deal than CO miles, or the typical $300 (minimum) cost. While Y availability can be hit or miss, J is always available.

Good call on the business class. Forgot that flights from Us-Canada are J not F so less Avios for an F seat. Definitely worth it when J using Avios is still less than coach in other programs!

Are we sure we can book from SEA. I have tried searching for flights to LAS and it says our partner does not fly this route. Infact any route from SEA gives the same error (no Alaska flights coming up)

Does Alaska's site show low availability?

BA is also working on their website this weekend so that might be part of the problem.

AS tickets cannot be booked online; they must be booked over the phone.

Search for flights on AA as AAsaver fares are ok for BA. Then call BA and spoon feed them the flights.

If you check Alaska's website, look for Super Saver award availability, which should be bookable with Avios by calling BA. Choice and Full Flex awards are not bookable with partner miles, only with AS miles. Unfortunately, F awards on Alaska will cost you triple the Avios since they book into a class that BA recognizes as F, and not J, as it really should.

Does anyone know any tricks for checking availability other than messing around with the BA site? It's slightly better now after they made some changes last week but it's still if you need to find anything more than a week or two out.

Maybe some alert with wandr.me or some other website? Anything? :)
