    She is a lady in waiting — waiting, that is, in the same spot for greater than 4,500 years. The Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt — also known simply as the Sphinx — is the largest monolith statue in the world created out of limestone. As the oldest known monumental sculpture, she sits, seemingly guarding the famous Pyramids of Giza behind her.
