I stayed here last week as a part of the Fine Hotels program through Amex Platinum... Also Hilton Honors Gold.

Just wanted to say I had one of the best hotels I've ever had at a hotel.

My wife and I signed up for a basic room... As a part of the FH program it stated we would get:

    A free upgrade if available
    Late checkout
    Free breakfast everyday
    100 resort credit
Buy 3 nights get one free

When we got there, the front desk said, "great, we have an upgrade for you"... I assumed it might be to an ocean view room... When my wife and I got to the room, it was a suite with 3 balconies, a living room, dining room, bar area, 2 bathrooms, and huge bedroom... Amazing.

The entire time we were there, the hotel would call us to make sure we were enjoying our stay.

They have two pools, an adult and kids pool. Both were awesome, the kids pool had a swim up bar with TVs.. Which was great for watching sports mid day.

The grounds are huge, but the restaurants were amazing. Humunuhumunu is awesome... Have dinner there at sundown.

You are right next door to the four seasons which has amazing dinner options as well.

Everyone was courteous, everyone made us feel welcome...

This place is worth every dollar.

Thanks for the review! I'm going to Maui in eb and was planning on the andaz but the Waileua sounds like it might be a better option especially with the FRH

IMHO, FHR is the main reason to keep Amex Plat.

Phorever: Did you get the chance to try Spa Grande at Grand Waliea?

I did not, I'm not much of a spa guy, but it looks beautiful.

    Interesting review. Thanks for sharing.

Though I do carry AXPLT, you can do typically the same, and sometimes better, at leading hotels booking via a Virtuoso agent. For those not familiar, the Virtuoso program offers very similar benefits to AXPLT (breakfast credit, upgrade, usually a misc credit). Virtuoso late check out is not guaranteed, though I've never asked and not received.

For the once or twice I've needed the 4pm checkout over peak periods, I will book with FHR. Otherwise, I do nearly all of my bookings via a small group of Virtuoso agents.

For those put off by the high Amex fee, this is a way to get the FHR benefits while saving the fee. Plus, I find many virtuoso agents to be far more knowledgable than FHR agents at the various call centers.
