I had the pleasure of staying in a Grand Suite at the Grand Hyatt Berlin in June 2010.

It's rare to have a faultless stay but my five nights here certainly came close. At check-in my Diamond Gold Passport status was acknowledged along with my confirmed suite upgrade. As the suite was not ready yet (for a late-morning arrival), I was escorted up to the Grand Club lounge for refreshments while waiting.

After about an hour in the lounge my room was finally ready and boy was it worth the wait! A true suite with living room, bedroom, master bathroom and guest bathroom...with a Nespresso machine and complimentary mini-bar made for a very comfortable stay.

The Club Olympus fitness center and spa was also excellent with a great indoor swimming pool, perfect after a hot day of sightseeing.

An outstanding Hyatt property overall with great rooms and excellent staff.

My suite looked the same, and we very much enjoyed our stay. Thanks for the nice photos.

I've walked over to Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag from the Hyatt. For other areas of Berlin there's an S-Bahn stop right at Potsdamer Platz. Also within walking distance, in the opposite direction, is the Topography of Terror, an outdoor museum with black and white photos of events from the 30s and 40s. Berlin photos

I agree with tom911 as to the excellent location of the Hyatt for touring. The transit options are also very good. If arriving at TXL, there are a number of options, my choice would be the express bus X9 to the Bahnhof Zoo stop, where you make an easy and immediate transfer to bus # 200 for the short ride to Potsdamer Platz.

For tom, the domed building in your photos 206-208 is St. Hedwig's Cathedral, the chief Catholic church in the city (seat of the archbishop of Berlin)

I'll be staying here in a few weeks (with a confirmed suite upgrade). There's two of us and we'd probably prefer separate beds - anyone have any idea on what the different suites are like? I'm mostly wondering if we should go for a king bed to get a better room.

Thanks. Didn't know what the name was.

I was in Berlin the last few days but not at the Hyatt. I did the TXL bus out to the airport from Alexanderplatz after a stay at a Holiday Inn Express near Potsdamerplatz (2 for 1 rate--paid $86 first night and second night free), though there are some stops along Unter den Linden that you could also catch it. As your one way ticket covers rail and bus, was easy enough to do by rail to Alexanderplatz and bus from there. Also enjoyed the BA lounge at TXL. Clearly that is a longer trip than the bus from Berlin Zoo (45 mins vs about 20 mins IIRC).

I did take the X9 bus on the way in and that worked well for me as I was at a Crowne Plaza just down from Berlin Zoo station (that one paid for with AA miles). Berlin photos from this trip are up now.

Thanks for the in-depth report, excellent photos and description.

A wonderful suite, excellent furnishings, as expected from this famous hotel.

Btw. the bed design remembers us strong of the Park Hyatt Tokyo King bed we had. Really well done. Thanks again. Would love to stay there in the future too, when not in this suite, but please in the Grand Club Category at least.

    :)

I just stayed for two nights at the property and have to say it was a great stay. Upon arrival I was informed I have been given a View King room with club access on the 5th floor. Also, a manager came out to welcome me to the hotel a nice gesture since I haven't been to the hotel in about 8 years. The room was very spacious as you would expect I believe the size is around 40sq and had a view over the Tiergarten and we could see the Siegessaeule. I really liked the bathroom that had heated floors and a TV. The Grand Club is located on the 7th floor and features high quality food and a wide selection of hot and cold drinks. In the morning they have the typical continental spread, but you can order eggs from the attantent. As most European Hyatt's the hotel offers free coffee or tea to GP Members that will be delivered to the room. My diamond welcome amenity was a fruit plate and a nice card from the Director of Sales. The Spa, Gym, and pool are located on the 8th floor and offer a great view of Berlin. After this stay I decided to make this my go to hotel when I am in Berlin after several years of staying at the Ritz Carlton. Overall service from every staff member was flawless and there isn't anything negative I could say. Additional Pictures can be found here.

I wish I had known that. My suite had a Nespresso machine, but I gave that room to my parents and took the regular King room (which looked just like yours) and I think it didn't have a coffee maker.

Yeah, instant coffee, right? I am not a big fan of those (though I have been known to carry some emergency Starbucks Via packets, especially when traveling in Asia).

Yes, it was instant coffee and it definently tasted better than Starbucks Via. I believe the brands were HAG and Jacobs.
