Not a blackberry user, but what I'd like to see happening in cases like this is for Google to open-source the app and let someone else take over the development/maintenance. After all, the gmail users affected by this are Google's customers, too!

The "great web experience" doesn't help me when I'm on the plane or underground on the train and want to scroll through some messages. Craptacular move.

That seems to be a US-only problem. In my travels around Asia this summer I seemed to always have 3G connectivity on subway trains.

That said, I much prefer a native client app over webmail clients.

As I'm a google and gmail addict I though I would point out that Google has only dropped support for the Gmail App, blackberry itself still offers built in extended gmail support that supports using stars etc. I was quite worried when I saw this, but then I noticed I use the blackberry app and not the gmail plugin anyways.
