    http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/11/new-frontier-for-google-maps-mapping.html

Chances are that you might not need it today, but it's an incredibly cool and useful tool if you're new to some of these places, or as Google expands the offerings to cover other venues -- especially airports.

Case in point, look at the before/after comparison of Google Maps when at SFO:

Obviously the potential is there for airports, shopping malls and all other gigantic venues that you might find yourself in.

The current release covers the Mall of America (obviously), some select retail locations as well as ATL, ORD, SFO and NRT.

The list of places that have indoor maps has a few more airports listed, and I imagine it'll only get longer as time passes.

    Relevant airports:

    • Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL)
    • Boise International Airport (BOI)
    • Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT)
    • Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW)
    • Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD)
    • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
    • George Bush Houston International Airport (IAH)
    • Indianapolis International Airport (IND)
    • Kansas City International Airport (MCI)
    • Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (STL)
    • Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS)
    • Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP)
    • Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC)
    • Portland International Airport (PDX)
    • San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
    • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
    • William P. Hobby Airport (HOU)

I'd think chances of that are slim.

Looks pretty cool. I'm beginning to get the hang of IAH just as this rolls out. Fortunately I do pretty well without maps.

I would imagine it will slowly make its way to other platforms. I see this as being a good idea for selling advertisements. Imagine looking at the interior map of a mall and Google being able to display ads for stores that want your business. If it makes them money, they probably won't care which platform you are on.

where do you actually go to see this? I've tried via the web and on my iphone and I don't see any interior maps. I tried SFO.

ok, I guess the blog entry says google maps 6.0 for android.

Bing Maps has had this for quite a while if you don't have an Android device.
