Coming Soon: Daily Getaways 2012
woohoo! Time to dust off the Wyndham Rewards accounts
They have a Twitter feed here:
Awesome. Picked up some super deals last year. Excited to see whats in stock this time around.
I've been lucky with them for the last 2 years. It was well worth the sore fingers!
Agreed! It was a family project on different computers at our house last year - I'm sure it will be again this year!
Page is live... yeah I was stalking it...
The 2 week calendar is live too so you can see all the other promos for the following couple of weeks.
The Marriott TravelCard deals return 4/18, and hopefully we'll see the future stuff (past 4/23) soon enough -- as soon as some enterprising person decides to play around with the site to get the offer details early.
The IHG deals and the yet-to-be-released Wyndham deals are what I'm interested in personally. Good to see IHG come up first, but hopefully we won't have the same server issues as last year.
The 4/9 IHG deals break down as such:
* 10k points for $67
* 25k points for $167
* 40k points for $267
20 sets total can be ordered per account, so it should be an easy way to get some points. The advantage of this -- just like last year -- is that these points should count toward status, so you don't have to do the "points + cash + refund" deal to get cheap points into your account.
They're also touting a new "presale" thing that might make things complicated... you like the company on facebook and get a code that you can use to order early, and they'll have a limited number of the already limited number of items that you can buy ahead of everyone else.
The deals are here:
Actually you have to start with week=0 to see the stuff for next week.
Nothing too exciting yet.
To be honest I don't think last year was terribly exciting either, but it's the possibility when combined with a transfer to a partner that makes things interesting.
The one exception I think was the 100k HHonors points for $550, but even that was based on whether or not you had anything to do with the points afterwards.
I think most people just grabbed as many points as possible at a somewhat-discounted rate then waited for the next big transfer bonus. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that sent my Wyndham points into US Airways for their 75% bonus and the Grand Slam.
I got some great deals from hotel points and vouchers last year. I saved myself something like $500 that way.
OK, the math on the Wyndham offers on April 23rd using it as a mileage transfer, assuming that you use AMEX for the 10% discount, and, unlike 2011, there is no transfer bonus from any airline (US had a 50% transfer bonus last year)...
$543.60 nets you 190,000 Wyndham points, which can be cashed into 76,000 US/AA/UA/DL/CA/AB and random assorted other mileage plans (and leaves you with 2,000 Wyndham left over).
That's ~.72 CPM (yes, I have the decimal point in the right place, less than a penny a mile).
There are some who would argue that the value's better leaving the points in Wyndham- if you look at some of their overseas properties, I wouldn't necessarily disagree (their resorts in Bali are good point value, for instance). But anything where you're netting mileage at less than 1 cpm is pretty good these days if you ask me, considering that mileage runs are regularly clocking in at 3+ CPM. Another way of looking at this is this deal gets you within spitting distance of an AA J Oneworld Zone 4 award of up to 9,000 miles, with plenty of stopovers.
Have fun, folks.
(edited for desamo's math- Thanks!)
After last year's windfall this is exactly why I'm waiting for this. IF anybody comes up with a transfer bonus it can be an even better proposition.
That Wyndham deal sounds nice.
But I also need some good International Hotel options. Possibly a huge HHonors purchase to help with that.
Any hot tips?
There is a good chance other hotel chains will offer deals. Last year, there were many, so there is a good chance that Choice, SPG and Club Carlson will have something in the final two weeks.
I don't think Starwood was on sale last year. I remember Hyatt and Choice though.
Starwood made an offer in 2010. Carlson had offers in 2011.
Thanks for the info
I guess its time to start brushing up on my Hotel Programs.
Which one to go for...
And their transfer partners....
Loyalty Traveler is by far the best and most comprehensive source of info on hotel programs.
Looks like there's a variety of certificates, and the ones for United you'd get 4 of the middle ones that cost 17,500 Wyndham points giving 8,000 UA miles and 4 of the big ones that cost 30,000 Wyndham points giving 12,000 UA miles. This would net you 76,000 UA points and no extra Wyndham points.
I didn't check the other categories, but they looked similar.
Last year the Wyndham deals were all gone in less than 15 minutes. So, you would be wise NOT to plan on getting them all. Possible yes, but highly unlikely. I had an upcoming long stay at a Wyndham hotel last year, and I was fortunate enough to garner 4 of the 5 deals. Many people who were trying got far less.
Multiple different browsers worked good for me last year. Once you get a deal in the cart you have some time in minutes to complete the sale.
Either last year or the year before I missed out on some deals because I tried to use multiple tabs of the same browser. I think the carts got confused with the same browser.
I managed to get 162K points, so whatever I did worked reasonably well. I probably won't need any Wyndham points this year, as I have had a whole year to bulk up my hotel point totals in a variety of programs.
