My Friend Scott over at Milevalue posted an article of how to get on the New United 787 Business/First for 25,000 miles one way. He proposed that we go from SFO-IAH On one 787 and switch to another 787 from IAH-EWR. For people who don't have airport codes down, that's San Francisco - Houston - Newark. If you don't know by now, the 787 has lie-flat seats in Business/First! That's a total of about 6 1/2 hours in a lie flat seat. This got me thinking a little. I encourage you to read THIS link and then come back to this post to see what I did to enhance this trip. I'm currently on a trip and don't wanna copy and paste every word that Scott tediously wrote, so i'll just link to his site! Step 1: Book a United Award from SFO-IAH on the Dreamliner!. Make sure the plane says 787-800 Dreamliner! When you're at the payment page, click the "Phone Order" Link. It will auto-hold your itinerary and give you a reference number. You don't have to pay anything for 3 days. I know Scott said it's 24 hours, but it's 3 days now. I don't know why. Step 2: Call United with the Reference Number Step 3: Add on IAH-EWR. It is going to be the (depending on your date & daylight savings) Either 8:09 AM or 7:09 AM. Step 4: Make sure your IAH-EWR is a 787-800 as well Step 5: This is the tricky part. The SFO-IAH flight leaves at 12:15 AM. Make sure to add a flight the day before to SFO and make sure it arrives within 4 hours of the 787-800 departure to IAH!! This is KEY! For example, if you live in Los Angeles, you can Add a Leg from LAX-SFO arriving in SFO at 8:15PM or later the day before. This will still be 25,000 Miles and you will still be in First Class. Step 6: The fun doesn't stop when you get to Newark! You can add an additional leg from Newark-Another East coast city in the U.S except Hawaii. As long as it is within 4 hours of arriving in Newark and it will still be 25,000 Miles in First Class! Example: Arriving in Newark at 12PM and Leaving Newark at 2PM to go to Miami! Step 7: You will get an itinerary that looks like this! This Entire itinerary is 25,000 Points! You can technically go to any city in the east coast and still fly up to 2 787's!Also, the return is 25,000 As Well! Now, here are some notes: The 787 does come from LAX-IAH but the times just aren't great. The 787 leaves LAX and arrives in IAH at 11:29 PM and the next 787 leaves at 8:09 AM from Houston. The problem here is that it invalidates the "4-Hour Stopover Rule". Also, you can only make 3 4 hour stopovers on your trip. This means a MAX of 12 hours before you have to get to your destination. My trip shows economy on the last route EWR-TPA but that's only because I was playing around with dates. Here is a list of all the 787 Routes:Route Flight times Effective Date End Date Frequency IAH-SFO-IAH 5:45 p.m. westbound12:15 a.m. eastbound Nov. 4, 2012 Dec. 2, 2012 5 x weekly IAH-LAX-IAH 3:30 p.m. westbound 6:25 p.m. eastbound Nov. 4, 2012 Dec. 3, 2012 6 x weekly IAH-ORD-IAH 7:25 a.m. northbound11:15 a.m. southbound Nov. 4, 2012 Dec. 3, 2012 6 x weekly IAH-EWR-IAH 8 a.m. northbound3:30 p.m. southbound Nov. 4, 2012 Jan. 3, 2013 Daily, except Nov. 18 IAH-CLE-IAH 7 a.m. northbound 4 p.m. southbound Nov. 10, 2012 Nov. 10, 2012 One-day service IAH-IAD-IAH 7 a.m. northbound 3:50 p.m. southbound Nov. 17, 2012 Nov. 17, 2012 One-day service IAH-SFO-IAH 5:45 p.m. westbound12:15 a.m. eastbound Dec. 3, 2012 Jan. 3, 2013 Daily IAH-LAX-IAH 3:30 p.m. westbound 6:25 p.m. eastbound Dec. 4, 2012 Jan. 3, 2013 Daily IAH-DEN-IAH 7:20 a.m. westbound 10:15 a.m. eastbound Dec. 5, 2012 Jan. 2, 2013 Daily IAH-LAX-IAH 7:35 a.m. westbound 12:30 p.m. eastbound Jan. 3, 2013 March 31, 2013 Daily IAH-ORD-IAH 7:25 a.m. northbound11:15 a.m. southbound Jan. 4, 2013 March 29, 2013 Daily IAH-DEN-IAH 9:15 a.m. westbound 2:15 p.m. eastbound March 31, 2013 Open Daily http://www.bengalimilesguru.com/?p=252 I know there will be questions about this so Ask me and i'll clarify!
