    So they give a standby, the last standby on the list, that first class seat over someone on the upgrade list. I'd be complaining if I was that guy/ gal that was on the upgrade list

    Unhappy sure...complain why not? But what you posted doesn't actually prove anything does it ?

    I agree it seems odd but it might have just been the timing. The 1F seat may have opened up after the other upgrades got assigned in the system or whatever. Worst case the gate agent knows the person they gave the better upgrade to or something like that. I guess life isn't always fair :(

    US gate agents seem to have discretionary powers. Was #1 on SFO-PHL a while back confirmed by the gate agent. Someone else cleared and asked how that happened and was told it was a chairman that got it. Didn't think that was the rule, but no point in arguing.
