Posted a summary on my site of whats coming from 4U next year.
Anything yet about how this affect Star Alliance pax?
This depends on interlining agreements as flights will be operating as 4U and codeshared by partners. Something tells me it will soon join the alliance as well, which will make things easier for sure
Keep dreaming... this will be like Silkair for SQ, and Jetstar for QF.
Confirmed with 4U that there will be no alliance membership, nor can miles be credited to other *A programs. Miles&More or Boomerang only......
*A pax will not have any major affect, other than not being able to earn miles to non MM accounts.
In other words, *A pax will be the same as any other non-LH status passengers. No lounge, no miles. I wouldn't call that "not any major affect". I don't often fly LH routes that will shift over to GermanWings, but it does happen and I won't like it.
No lounge access.
No baggage allowance increases for *gold.
No preferred seating.
No priority waitlist for oversold flights.
I would say the impact on a *a flyer is quite strong.
Its nothing new though as far as the original Germanwings model though. Granted they're eliminating all the LH "feeders" that *G's benefited from and turned them to 4U , but its nothing new if you consider the existing 4U model. Sure I would have liked to have seen 4U acclimate some of the LH benefits to their flyers, but its not the case here.
But we're not talking about what's changing for people who already were flying 4U.
What happens when I fly LH from ORD to DUS and then onwards to TXL on 4U?
In this case you won't have the *A bene's from DUS to TXL.....but I suspect you can use a lounge if you have *G status since you are arriving in DUS. I've never had an issue using a FCL or SEN lounge as an arrival lounge even without an onward connection so i dont think you'll have an issue . you could fly ORD-FRA or MUC and then to txl and eliminate the risk of lost *A benefits.
What happens to the bag allowance -- I assume LH would check the bags through and not charge for 4U?
And of course it would eliminate *A award availability on that route.
No *A baggage allowance extensions on 4U.
