Security staff at DUS and HAM walked off the job from morning shift Thursday until Midnight. 286 flights canceled thus far.
Wow, 34,000 security workers in that region? Paranoia is a much bigger industry than I would have suspected.

That number is significantly lower when you deduct the sleepers, nail filers, magazine readers, daydreamers and game players. That leaves about 900 active workers which shows they are severely understaffed.

    sleepers- secret undercover agents
nail filers- confiscate dangerous sharp objects
daydreamers- visualize potential future threats, prepare for potentialities
game players- test new methods, techniques and equipment

Those are all essential roles requiring highly specialized, well trained operatives.

Thanks for the clarification! Now I know when I see the sleepers that they are watching my every move and the snoring is nothing but a diversion.

Just to be clear, these aren't 34,000 airport security people. It's apparently 34,000 private security workers in the entire state of some 17,000,000 people. Still a number that's larger than I would have guessed, but I really have no basis for estimating.

What's with Duesseldorf? Last year I almost did not make my connection because of a bus driver strike at the airport. Everything worked just fine at the airport, but even 15% of the people not being able to get to their planes wrecked havoc to the entire schedule.

I don't have an answer to your question. I just like saying Dusseldorf.

    Dusseldorf.

    Dusseldorf.

    Dusseldorf.

    I feel better now.
