Georgetown: New luxury hotel to open by presidential inauguration:)

The hotel firm founded by former Ritz-Carlton legend Horst Shulze is moving ahead with a 49-room luxury boutique hotel in Washington D.C.'s tony Georgetown neighborhood.

Robert Warman, executive vice president of West Paces Hotels, tells Hotel Check-In that the Capella Georgetown has financing and that the time is right. He says the goal is to open the 49-room hotel in time for the next presidential inauguration on Jan. 20, 2013.

The hotel will compete with Georgetown's other luxury hotels - the Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons, he says.

Does West Paces own the Capella in Singapore? How many other hotels do they have?

Hmm... haven't heard anything good about Capella yet- however a nice small option in Georgetown is sure interesting.

The building refirb, from the outside, is quite nice, and the hotel is basically done. The guys were removing the last of the fences and stuff the other day.*
They have used black to trim the tan brick exterior and it looks pretty sharp. What I presume is one of the restaurants faces the canal with expansive windows.
It might be an interesting property.

*Indeed, the website says that they will start accepting reservations tomorrow: http://www.capellahotels.com/washingtondc/georgetown/default-en.html

"Opening date has been pushed to April 3, 2013."

And I looked right past that statement in writing my comment.

I did some recon on Expedia--they're showing rates from the high sixes for a "Superior" room to about $1100 for "The Georgetown Room" in mid April.

I would very much appreciate the complimentary pressing benefit--I hate ironing stuff after I pull it out of my bag.

Okay--who am I kidding? I'm really not much of a fan of ironing at any time...

The room in the picture looks nice, but perhaps not nice enough for their prices. It sounds like the location is below M street, along the canal. I can't picture which building this would be.

That's what I thought too, for this price per night, it doesn't speak to me.
