  2. Its set the goal posts for a substantial amount of technological advancement. Of possibly greater value is it addressed a variety of social and political topics, such as racism, xenophobia and the cold war.

Cool. Although I'd rather have the invisibility cloak.

Very true. There was a time when my ringtone was the TNG communicator chirp....

But I primarily watched Trek for the hott babes: Yeoman Rand, Counselor Troi, Kira Neryss, Jadxia Dax, 7 of 9....[IMG]

Yeah, but I could never get my flip phone to make that cool TOS communicator sound effect when I flipped ut open . . . as Denny Crane's phone did.

I actually have my current phone set to the TOS communicator "beep, beep" for certain calls.

Don't forget, there are stories of how engineers descended on the TOS set to see how they were able to get the doors to swoosh open so quickly. Although on all the series, the effect was done by humans on the other side of wall, the research aided in the technology we see today at every Target and Walmart - the motion sensing self-opening door.

So which sound do you play in your head when you go through an automatic door: a simple "swoosh" or the more mechanical reverberating holodeck door?

I wonder what his vision was for mileage earning when using the teleportation device :)

Oh, one little factoid: almost everybody hated Jar, er, I mean Wesley Crusher despite Roddenberry saying that he modeled Wesley after himself at that age.

I wasn't aware that Rodenberry modeled Wesley Crusher after himself, but I found the character annoying most of the time. But, by Ryker's beard, Hwil Hweaton seems to have turned out OK, and also seems to be a good sport about it all.

Haha...yes, Will Wheaton is pretty cool actually. At a convention, many years ago, he related the story of when he was a judge at a Trek Costume Contest. There were the typical group of fans whose elaborate costumes obviously costed a lot of time, money, and resources. But in the end, he chose the winner: a guy in a simple red shirt with a shooting target taped on his chest. [IMG]
