Announcing an expansion of its codeshare with Etihad Airways, the carrier also announced it would increase frequencies between Jakarta and Amsterdam via Abu Dhabi, to six times a week, also from June.

The new route will provide competition for Jetstar Airways, which flies twice a week between Jakarta and Perth.

Currently, KLM flies five times a week between Amsterdam and Abu Dhabi.

Only Etihad and Garuda fly between Abu Dhabi and Jakarta.

Garuda will offer six more routes to Europe and the Middle East, under its codeshare agreement with Etihad.

The airline will offer Etihad flights to Frankfurt, Brussels, Milan, Dusseldorf, Munich and Bahrain.

Garuda president, Emirsyah Satar, said: “The code-share cooperation agreement signed in October 2012, has significantly contributed in facilitating access for Garuda Indonesia passengers from Indonesia, to go to 80 destinations in 50 countries in this world served by Etihad Airways.”

The latest agreement brings the total number of Garuda flights served by Etihad to 13.
