Long story short. Was at IAH the other day and my first class seat was given to someone else. I ended up in a middle seat in the back. Interestingly, the GS standing beside me was also relegated to the back The sCO folks had no idea, or feigned ignorance, about skykits and had poor attitudes. The agents were suggesting - threatening might be too strong here but it did seem like it - that I wouldn't be allowed on the plane if I didn't cower into my middle Y seat, i.e., I gave your seat away, too bad for you. Like most others, I have had no luck with UA in the past few months regarding poor service. Suggestions?

    Cheers -

Edit: I didn't give the GA a hard time. I just wanted a reason why my seat was given away.

I don't understand... Was this a revenue ticket? Did you upgrade to F and they took it back or what?

I've heard of plenty of instances where a passenger would get bumped because of a VIP or a marshall or something but not just like "we gave away your seat, too bad"

Epic moniker and avatar. But before I taunt the agents a 2nd time I will need more information.

How was it your f seat
How the ga come to be in control of it
why did he or she give it away

Did the OP arrive late at the gate? Could it have been a FAM, for example seat 2B?

Also, where were you headed? There could be a plausible explanation for the loss of your seat (FAM is one, as noted above), but there is no excuse for agent rudeness or ignorance of policy. Further, there are rules setting forth the correct procedure for handling and compensating a downgrade. More information would be helpful for us to make an informed recommendation as to your next steps.

You're not going to find many people in IAH who know what a "SkyKit" was; maybe what you meant to ask was "could you please tell me how the profile GG OVS DOWNGRADE applies to this situation?"

And weren't Skykits discontinued in 2008 and didn't they only apply to in-flight problems?

The cards were being handed out well after 2008. They were for in-flight issues IME but my experiences certainly aren't all-encompassing.

But was the name SkyKit still used? I vaguely remember reading FT threads about them discontinuing that. Could be wrong, though. I received a card with a serial number to be used on the "Please Accept Our Apologies" website as recently as March for an inflight issue (broken audio) on a PMUA aircraft.

Before anyone can offer any credible guidance, we need answers to two questions:
    1. Did you have a boarding pass printed with the seat assignment in the forward cabin?
    2. How many minutes prior to departure did you arrive at the gate?

    1. Yes. My companion and I were in 1E and 1F. We were connecting through from PTY on CR-1 upgrades.
    2. At least 20.

    What is FAM?

The GA was working the gate by himself. Could he have just wanted to make sure there were no empty F seats and thus no complaining elites? He was up and back to the AC opening and closing the jet bridge door. The AC door was open and others boarded after us.

OT - maybe it's user error but I answered here yesterday and now no post... hmmm. It was right after the Danger post.

I really did mean to ask for a skykit because the code you've presented is something I did not know existed. I will add this to my notes. Thanks

Please clarify: when you got to the gate (at least 20 mins before scheduled departure), had boarding begun? Were there still people actively boarding? Was your companion downgraded, too?

Boarding had begun and was still ongoing. As mentioned, others boarded after us, however, it was neared the end than the beginning. My companion was also downgraded.

Strange. I thought maybe the GA had given away your seats thinking you had missed the connection, but if boarding was still ongoing, how'd s/he know or even think to know? You could have been sitting in the gate area just waiting for the masses to board. Two seats given away also seems to rule out FAM (as do the bulkhead seats, I suppose).

If the GA didn't want to answer the question, I would send email to 1KVoice and explain the situation in a concise message and (a) ask for an explanation and (b) downgrade compensation.

I had a GA 40 minutes before a departure from IAD to FRA give my seat away (on a paid C ticket, they did find me a different seat in C though) because he thought I was misconnecting. This was before 3/3 but I assume this is what happened, the GA must have processed upgrades and was under the impression you won't make it.

I was in the lounge between flights so who knows? The GA should have known that my flight had landed and that I was on it. And to be more clear. The boarding was sporadic. The agent, working the flight alone, was back and forth from the desk to the AC opening and closing the jet bridge door.

    Here is my scenario:
Boarding starts no thegrailer or +1 [separate PNRs]
Boarding continues still no thegrailer or +1
GA goes to the AC and sees F full except for thegrailer and +1's seats [maybe others?]
    Wash rinse repeat.
GA determines thegrailer and +1 are no shows
    Boarding continues
GA upgrades other UA elites [UA sale of F seats is approved b/c of openings and kettles move up to F?]
    Boarding continues
thegrailer and +1 arrive but our F seats are gone.
    Boarding continues/ends

    Is 1KVoice still alive?

    Yes.

Not good. I wonder how often that same GA has done that.

Someone took seat 1C from my friend yesterday on 932 IAD-FRA even as
she was sitting in it, half an hour before departure. I will be posting about
this in its own thread when I get the chance (getting on 902 IAD-MUC in
    an hour).

Note to self: learn to speak/fake Swahili for situations like that.

GA: Sir, I need you to move to Coach.
Me: Sina uhakika nini unauliza mimi, lakini kama ni kuhusu vinywaji kabla ya kuondoka, mimi itabidi glasi ya champagne yako unono, tafadhali.
GA: Huh? MOVE TO COACH NOW!
Me: Na napenda tu upendo karanga baadhi ya moto.
