Amazingly, the geniuses at F9 announced this just a few days after Southwest announced it's ADDING free TV to all its wifi-equipped planes.

What is going on at F9? They seem committed to abandon frequent fliers and simply try to eke out a ULCC living with the Joads.

Southwest could have bought the rights away from F9? From DirectTV's standpoint would you rather be on F9 or on the largest domestic carrier in the US. Also note that AirTran used to have pay DirectTV so there was some sort of preexisting relationship with merged AirTran/SW airline. Also the "free" TV is a limited time, but it worked... Unfortunately both the food and travel channels are infomercials on 7 am flights...

Given all the changes at Frontier they do in fact want to be a Spirit.

Indeed, I think we're only six months or less away from seeing the elimination of Stretch seating and 29" Spirit-style seat pitch. Mind boggling.

Just recently did a Florida vacation [DEN - TPA / RSW - DEN].
This did not strike me as the F9 I once knew & loved.
Just echoing the Spirit comments above.
Crew also seemed tired, grumpy and just not happy to be there.

Guys working check-in and the gate were part-timers from AA. Chatted w/ them about the changes.
    "OH dear... Poor Frontier."
