  1. [IMG] It’s time to lighten your sense of humor: Da uno a molto (From One to Many), 1956-1974, a cumulative exhibiton of Italian artists Michelangelo Pistoletto’s paintings, installations and performances opens at MAXXI on Friday March 4, following its three -month showcase at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
More than 100 works traversing a twenty-two year span are now on display in Zaha Hadid’s award winning edifice, perhaps and coincdentally the perfect setting for a Pistoletto retrospective. Pistoletto’s work is whismical, humorous and thought-provoking, asking the viewer to take a look at the work and one’s self in context to simulated [art] environment, physical space and even the global stage. It’s arte povera, pop, minimal and conceptual all rolled into one, much like his Globe (credit: Jeffrey Bussman)- a rolling ball of newspaper pushed through the streets over the decades. The stark white palace is a visual palate cleanser for the piccante flavors of Pistoletto’s work. Through June 22, 2011.
