For those of us that keep up with friends and family on FB

"Stay connected with your friends at 30,000 feet! Just open your browser in-flight during the month of February and click the Ford Explorer® banner on the Wi-Fi welcome page. You will enjoy full access to Facebook®, without purchasing a Wi-Fi pass."

Have to access facebook.com using web browser; free access doesn't work using the Facebook Android app.

Traveled with a Facebook junkie last week and they really appreciated this giveaway. I am sure when it is over they will think about paying for it going forward.

You right, this was a very savvy and wise promotion (by GoGo I would suspect) that will generate more revenue going forward.

That is a great suggestion! Do we have an AA lurker on here yet?
There is a MilePoint FB page so you can now spend some time there for free via GoGo

You'll start seeing representatives from some programs after the site goes public March 1. It's still in beta.

One can only hope for a more useful AA lurker on here than on FT.

Probably in the minority here but I have not been on FT for quite some time.

Used this promotion on a short 737 flight today and got caught up on all my FB news feeds!

I spent much of a recent DFW-SAN flight on FB. But, be careful to navigate to HTTPS://www.facebook.com before logging in, and be sure to log out when done. Also, set your FB security preference to always use HTTPS. Otherwise you'll be vulnerable to anyone in the plane who feels like sidejacking you (where someone steals your logged-in cookie).

By the way, I posted a FB status update about the dessert and was surprised at how many people "liked" it [IMG]

Also, my experience was that the non-text portions of FB loaded extremely slowly, e.g., the small icon next to everyone's status update on your page. At first I thought these were deliberately not enabled, but over time they gradually loaded. Likely many people on the plane were using FB.

Makes you wonder - if you allowed phones on the plane, would people spend more time texting or on Facebook. The wonders of modern tech! And non face to face interaction.

Exactly what i was thinking. I can see this being as much/more than some little facebook.

Used the free FB connect today and I got the same instant response from so many when posting a pic outside of 2A!
Great promotion all around for FB and AA - lets see whose next to keep their FB status current at 35,000!

On iPhone, the native app does work. But not until I'd opened up a browser window and click the "get free FB access" Ford button. After doing that, I could go back and use either.

All in all, a cool promo. The only frustrating thing was that you could only stay within FB, so if friends posted links, or even Youtube videos, you can't get to them. Not without coughing up for the full Gogo, at least - excellent marketing move on their part :)

Better then a cool promo...Extremely successful judging from a walk to the lav this morning on my DFW flight I have never seen so many with their laptops on the net and specifically on FaceBook.

The promo team who created this is a clearly winning group- Wonder where it generated from? Gogo, FB, Ford or AA????

I'm afraid to use it on a public network (such a WiFi in an airplane) because I don't know if it uses HTTPS, so you're at risk of sidejacking (popular scripts make it easy for bored passengers to sidejack), credential logging, etc.
