Let it be true, it is offered to the top tier elites of many other hotel loyalty programs! Thanks Kalboz for the link!:)

Let's not be too piggy here. star wood is in business to make profits, not provide tons of freebies.

It's no freebie, when it's well earned! Free breakfast is offered at many other hotel loyalty programs eg. HH incl. for Golds and Diamonds! Why should Starwood Platinums get less? That's not piggy, that could be seen as stingy by some!

I agree. I'd rather see things like free breakfast and waived resort fees than suite upgrades. It's usually a nice hotel to begin with, or else I wouldn't be staying there. An upgrade is nice but not really saving me money since I wouldn't pay for one anyway. Breakfast and other expenses ARE things I would buy, and having them waived avoids the feeling of being nickel and dimed.

It's the primary reason why I am actually trying to maintain HH Gold. And why I think it is the best mid-level hotel elite tier.

I love W properties most of all in all SPG's brands, even knowing there is no prospect of lounges, so it would be really nice to be able to stay at a W and have free breakfast! :) This is a needed elite perk for SPG if this is true!

Personally, I would not want to give up suite upgrades for free breakfast but I understand how others feel in that the breakfast is guaranteed and the suite upgrades are not. If Hyatt were to provide free suite upgrades, it would clearly be the best in class program... but that is unlikely given that their reward structure has the option to redeem for suites.

Thus, it would behoove Starwood to provide free breakfast for it's top tier if it wanted to clearly be the best in class program.

If this passes, I think SPG is trying to be more in line with other programs. It is getting harder to stick with Hilton for me if I can eat breakfast and also have award nights/stays count.

Keeping an eye on this one.

The issue is, if you don’t get an upgrade to a suite and the hotel don't have a lounge. As a Platinum member, aside from free internet and a welcome amenity, you are not getting any benefits for being a SPG Platinum member !!!

What about late check out? More SPG Points? Access to gym? Guaranteed room? And the best benefit that I'm sure all Platinum members use every time they stay at SPG hotel, up to $300 check cashing.

Check cashing isn't free money, but the benefit that I find valuable is the guaranteed late checkout.

Late check-out and complimentary breakfast for people who actually earned their platinum status with real stays in Starwood hotels, this would be a nice improvement!:)

    Personally...whatever.

Most of my nights are for business and I can expense a $15 omelette if I need to. When I'm on vacation I'm not sure I'd do hotel breakfast even if it were free...maybe in a few places.

Bottom line is that I'd rather see SPG do something innovative if they want to sweeten the pot rather than just mimic the Hyatt offering.

Two options that wouldn't suck--guaranteed early check-in or free minibar in hotels with such amenities for for Plats (or a new super-plat category). And yes, I have more IC RA envy than I do Hyatt/Hilton envy.
