Frankfurt airport, Europe's third busiest hub, braced for travel chaos Thursday, with as many as half of all flights cancelled due to a strike by airport tarmac workers over pay.

Fraport, the company which owns and operates Germany's largest airport, is aiming to keep "50 per cent of operations up and running" on Thursday and Friday despite a walkout by so-called "apron control" staff, who direct aircraft in and out of their parking positions, a spokesman told AFP.

I had a flight to LCY today which was cancelled; won't be easy to get new appointments there. I'm quite angry on those ground traffic controllers asking for a 70% pay rise. How could one ask for such a thing and take thousands of pax hostage... Unbelievable.

Just read that the current strike action which was announced for today (Monday) has been extended into full Tuesday.

After my cancelled flights on Monday and Tuesday I called LH HON service for rebooking Tuesday afternoon as I had new appointments fixed for London 4 weeks later in March, using the exact same flight numbers. First response was that rebooking for a date in 4 weeks is not possible, I can only rebook for free for flights within a week of the original dates.

Fortunately my ticket was a flexible one this time, otherwise I would have to book a new ticket.

I find this unbelievable. What were your experiences with LH and other airlines during the strike?

they should all lose their jobs since they obviously have no concern for the people they affect.
