"Survey respondents evaluated companies according to the following criteria: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, quality of products/services, and global competitiveness."

I was more interested in "admired by who", so I looked at the CNN website.

To arrive at the top 50 Most Admired Companies overall, the Hay Group asked 3,855 executives, directors, and securities analysts who had responded to the industry surveys to select the 10 companies they admired most. They chose from a list made up of the companies that ranked in the top 25% in last year's surveys, plus those that finished in the top 20% of their industry. Anyone could vote for any company in any industry. The difference in the voting rolls is why some results can seem anomalous -- for example, although FedEx is one of the top 10 Most Admired Companies, it is second in the Delivery industry behind top-ranked UPS, which ranked 29th on the top 50 overall.

What executive, director or securities analyst has time to answer this type of BS survey? Maybe an "executive" paid a few miles or points by a certain survey site?

I am sure the securities analysts admire the cost-cutting and revenue enhancements under Smisek...

This is really remarkable. I guess they didn't poll the pilots about people management. Or people who fly Intl F on other carriers about quality of services. Or....

It's an article in FORTUNE, clearly focusing on the financial side of things. Given the company's balance sheet and performance, it makes some sense from that perspective. That perspective, though, has little to do with what we as customers experience.

I admire United's ability to help me book reward tickets on airlines for which I have more admiration.

The survey is, as noted, clearly focused on the business/financial side. But even with that focus, I'm still somewhat surprised that UA won. I would have expected DL to take the top spot, at least among North American carriers.

    AMEN !!!!!!!!

The survey that came to this conclusion has the same credibility that the inflation numbers of the Argentine INDEC.
