Flying the 380 in F on the 9th HKG - BKK. I know it's a short flight, but do you think they will be offering anything special upfront to commemorate. Some silk PJ's and a new set of luggage would be nice :-D

Yes, flunked typing in school, among others, but let's just stick with typing for now :)

We just did BKK to HKG two days ago in Thai First. Had CX Business reserved and then ExpertFlyer alerted me that two First seats opened on the A380 and in a "what the hell" moment, we booked them with United miles and cancelled that CX flight.

Check-in was very exclusive - "please have a seat" while they take your forms, tag your luggage and print your Boarding Passes. You are then escorted to the First Lounge - long trip and it was okay but nothing over the top. I can tell you that Lufthansa has nothing to worry about. But like everywhere else we went in Thailand, the people there could not be nicer or more gracious.

The flight was short. I found that some of the flight attendants were not thoroughly fluent in English. The one who took my order ended up bringing the wrong thing and in the end, I ate it since it was too hard to explain! My only real disappointment was that I was very much looking forward to getting the Rimowa amenity kit but was told they do not give out amenity kits for flights under four hours. Boo Hiss!

As we deplaned, we were asked if we were First Class, our names were checked against the list and we were put in a cart to be driven to passport control.

It was all a tad over the top but I'm glad we did it. It was a beautiful cabin and the flight was noticeably quieter than other planes. The absolute biggest pisser was that it was not until we were driving to passport control that my wife discovered it was a two-story plane! God bless her!

One thing I forgot to mention that was surprising. Even though the seats are First Class, they still block some of the seats for their Elite members. But what we found wierd was that they blocked one of the two middle seats in each row making it impossible for couples to sit together.

Now on a two hour flight, certainly no big deal. But if it was LA to BKK, that would have been annoying. Of course, I could also be wrong and it's possible a call to Thai would have solved the issue or that they don't do this on long-hauls. Don't know.
