Flightlinez in Downtown Las Vegas

  1. [IMG]Zip lines are often a way to zoom through a forest canopy or high over a desert. In downtown Las Vegas, a new zip line lets you ride under the canopy of the Fremont Street Experience, suspended above the pedestrians below.
In late 2010, Greenheart Conservation Company opened the 800-foot long Flightlinez zip line in downtown Las Vegas. On the east side of the Fremont Street Experience, riders climb to a platform about 60 feet high. Riders are strapped into a harness that is clipped onto a long, straight line that angles downward. People strap in and sit down, then “fly” at 25 to 30 m.p.h. toward Fremont Street, whizzing under the canopy and landing on a platform in the heart of the FSE.
Flightlinez currently is scheduled to be open until July 3, 2011. The ride is open from noon until midnight, Sunday through Thursday, and from noon until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Riders must be between 60 pounds and 250 pounds and under 6’7″. Before 6 p.m., rides are $15.00; after, $20.00.

I did it when I was in Las Vegas in January. Going at night when the lights are on all around is an interesting experience. It was very quick though, and although it was kinda fun, I wasn't clamoring to do it again.
