Are there a lot of FA's on these forums?
I am seeing frequent banner ads urging me to vote for the IAM, like this:

I've seen some of them too. I doubt it's so much that there are lots of FAs on milepoint (though there certainly are some), but rather the IAM paid for ads that have keywords and targeted marketing efforts toward travel related sites in general. I don't know that I would've invested my digital marketing dollars that way per se, but that's why I'm in analytics and not marketing. :)

Right - these ads are somehow being targeted at this readership, and that seems somewhat strange as I would think most of us aren't voting in this election. It also seems a bit odd to see a lot of union resources being spent on something that doesn't really benefit the members (the assumption being each union will work equally hard to represent members, and the union leaders are elected - so would the members be better off just flipping a coin and saving the money otherwise spent on an election? - of course the current leaders want to hold onto power...)

FWIW, I noticed that nearly every CO employee I interacted with over my 5 day journey last weekend had some sort of "IAM UNITED" flair on. I'm pretty sure that the guy with United Global Services on his name tag at HKG check-in had it as well.

And, yes, it is poorly marketed advertising spend.

These kind of ads are following me to Facebook, too. Either I have an ad targeting systems on my computer that has ID'd me as being in the target, or they are basing it on my Facebook interests and friends...
    Here's the ad on FB:

I suppose it's due to this thread.

Watch out for dues being deducted from your paycheck in the future!:D

Given the integration between FB and MP it isn't all that surprising to me that there is some cookie information that crosses between the sites and can identify to an advertiser that you are on both.

Ad targeting is getting significantly smarter all the time.

Advertisers buy keywords, and it's quite difficult to select the right keywords. It looks like the ones they picked to reach FA's also hit frequent fliers.
