I am doing a MR to SIN. I am arriving at 12:30am and leaving at 7:00am. I don't plan on leaving the airport. Do I need to go through Passport Control?

If you don't plan on leaving the airport, you don't need to go through to Passport Control. Assuming you have access, you can go straight to the lounge. SIN airport is 24 hours and there are eateries and shops airside that open 24 hours. Good luck with your first international MR! :)

Oh man.... I was thinking about doing this run to SIN as well... but decided against it. Very interested in hearing how it goes.

if you get to SIN freqently or have been there before, I can understand not leaving the airport.

However if you haven't been to Singapore before, get yourself out of the airport. Passport control is a breeze at SIN.

Years ago when I did my first MR (ORD-SIN), I had basically the same layover hours as you, I can't tell you how nice it was to grab a cab, go eat a hawker center, drink a beer & walk around before I got back on the plane <7hours later and flew all the way back home. Just my 2 cents.

Originally, I was thinking of doing this run to get most of the 20K I need for UA 1K. Decided against it as I'm likely to move on to AA or DL... that and UA rolled out the LAX-ORD DEQM bonus if I change my mind.

I did this last year twice, but went to Bali for 5 days the first time. On the second trip a few days later I stayed two nights at the Sheraton Towers on points. Nice to break it up.

if one has the time, plus then is it really a MR?, as you can imagine the purists think not.

If the main reason for the trip is Miles then in my humble opinion it is a mileage run. Guess I'm not a purist...

I would agree with you. Purists believe that a MR is all about the miles period, so if you stay more than a layover period, it is now not a MR. For instance I used to do many a 6/7 hour turn in SIN, now I take at least a day, then return, so hence supposedly I'm no longer doing a MR but like you, the trip is still mostly about the miles so IMO it is a MR.

My definition is that if you wouldn't take a trip if it wasn't for the miles then it is a mileage run or for the purists a "Mileage Jog"

I just got back. I am a little dazed. Perhaps it was a bit much for a first MR. The plane to SIN was delayed to so I was at the airport for only three hours. I think next time I will do what the "purists" call a "Mileage Jog".

I've only done domestic pure mileage runs and only a few at that. I have done my share of Jogs. Ie like outbound JFK-DTW-PIT-JFK-LAS + weekend in Vegas then return LAS-ATL-MIA-JFK..... I couldn't image a TPAC or TATL Mileage run without a day or two at the destination.

Everything went well. I just think I should do smaller runs in the near future.

Okay thanks. Slowly by reading the threads I am learning the lingo- but when I get stuck it's nice that I just need to ask and the everyone are so helpful to those of us just starting out.
