I have booked some flights to Europe for myself and two friends all under one PNR, they have been upgraded to E+ which I knew they would be, but will they get boarding passes for Group 1 and if not will they be able to board with me as I will be in group 1? They have no status with UA

They can board with you even if the BP doesn't say Group 1. Not an issue at all.

Thanks, just did not want them to be embarrassed if they were turned away.

If their BP doesn't say Group 1 and they try to board on their own they may have issues. If you go first in line and mention that they are traveling with you the GA shouldn't care at all. Or hold all three BPs yourself and hand them over with yours on top.

Yes, thought I would go first and mention it to the as I hand the agent my boarding pass.

No need, just be in front of them and when you board just tell the GA the next two are traveling with you.

I'm pretty sure that's what they meant, as opposedd to going up to the agent before boarding starts. Just being first of the three at the scanner is sufficient. :-:

Not sure what the big deal is with Group 1 given that this is probably a widebody.

I am perhaps the only person that doesnt care to board early

Not sure about the OP but as I always travel at the back and have cabin luggage and a computer bag, it unfortunately means the difference between the bag staying with me (board early and find space) or I have to start removing items of value etc etc and gate check.

It does not help too that most of my trips are also international flights with connections that requires going through security and customs at the first port of entry.

I don't think my post indicated it was a "big deal" and it is certainly not, but it would be nice to board together, so don't think that is a "big deal." It is certainly nice since we will only have carry on luggage to be able to get bin space without having to fight for it.

    Fight for it?

I think you fly UA domestically on 737s and A320s way too much. I tend to show up last, and have space above me. Granted I'm usually in business, but sometimes in E+. If this is a 767/747/777 space is plenty. Sometimes mine is the only bag

My desire to board early is mainly to escape the gate lice and gate drama

All I did is ask a simple question, don't know why some are making a "big deal" out of it. :)
