Hi Everyone, today we announced that the first Continental aircraft with Economy Plus is ready to fly. The 767-400 (tail number 060 for those of you are interested) will enter service on November 19th. In addition to 91 Economy Plus seats, here are some other highlights:
    • New flat-bed seats. The aircraft has been retrofit with 39 new flat-bed seats in BusinessFirst.
    • Advanced audio/video on demand (AVOD). New touchscreen seat-back monitors have been added to Economy which means the aircraft is now equipped with AVOD nose to tail.
    • More seats. Galley and lavatory modification resulted in a gain of 4 seats in BusinessFirst and 3 in Economy for a new capacity of 39 and 203. Specifically, the aircraft has 39 seats in BusinessFirst, 91 Economy Plus seats (with four inches of extra legroom) and 112 standard Economy seats.
    • Elite customers can confirm complimentary. The current policies for assigning seats on Continental aircraft will remain unchanged. Specifically, OnePass and Mileage Plus customers with Elite status will continue to be able to confirm seats forward of the exit rows complimentary in advance. The specific aircraft that will be flying a route is usually known about 36 hours prior to departure. It’s only at this point that you’ll know whether or not the aircraft has been reconfigured with Economy Plus.
    • Economy Plus seats will become available for purchase at check-in. Customers who do not have Elite status with OnePass or Mileage Plus will be able to purchase seats in Economy Plus during the check-in process if available.
    • More aircraft are coming soon. Many more mainline Continental aircraft with Economy Plus will be entering service over the course of the next six to eight months. The entire conversion process, however, will take in excess of a year to complete.
The initial route for the 767-400 is still being defined, but, we’ll post it here once it’s known. Oh, it’s also the first aircraft in the fleet to be wired for Channel 9 air traffic control communications.

Credit where it's due; I am impressed and happy to see that Continental is following through on its commitment to quickly retrofit existing aircraft with E+.

As an added plus, I am very happy to see that Channel 9 is being retrofitted into existing AV systems. Nice job!

Love that AVOD will be nose to tail. Hopefully that will eventually make its way to the Economy seats on United aircraft soon too.

Great to hear on both e+ and Ch9 (but let's not forget about those 57's flying TATL ex-IAD ;))

+1 - that's a great development - and fitting in more net seats make it a win-win for all of us and the company

Great news! That was a lot earlier than expected.

Just out of curiosity, will United charge 10 dollars for use of the AVOD in the back?

    Thanks

They do/did for "premium AVOD" on the reconfigured pmUA 777s.

Correct. 5 movies are free (in loop), the rest cost 10 bucks. Just interested to see where this is heading..

My understanding is that they are moving to the PMCO version of the AVOD system pricing - FREE.

Shannon, thanks for this update. Great news. Two of my biggest concerns about the merger were 1) would UACO continue UA's practice of Starnet blocking (they apparently have stopped it) and 2) would UACO implement E+ fleetwide? Both of these issues have been resolved the right way, and I'm extremely happy about it. Thanks!

I know-just a "friendly reminder" not to focus only on widebodies as an 8 hour TATL flight in e- in a single aisle aircraft = ouch ;)

That would be nice ;) but WanderingAramean was referring to the e+ conversion of CO 57's

Thanks for the update, Shannon! With the AVOD, were standard power outlets also installed throughout the economy cabin? (That was the case with the other PMCO AVOD installs - so just checking).

    Thanks!

I do hope that the changes to each aircraft sub-fleet can be done very quickly so that we don't end up in the same situation with UA's 777s - four years of seat assignments going awry in the 24 hours prior to the flight as the aircraft is swapped for one with a different configuration.

So FlightAware is still not showing anything for N78060. They really are keeping the initial route a tightly held secret. You'd think it would be showing up the evening before.
