Received a brochure from Amex describing FHR benefits for 2012:

    1. New Benefits: Noon Check-in (upon check-in, if available)

    2. Room Upgrade (upon check-in, if available)

    3. Continental Breakfast for two

    4 Guaranteed 4:00 pm check-out

    5. Additional Special Benefit, such as a massage for two or complimentary $100 food & beverage credit

    www.americanexpress.com/fhr

Also, there are many new participating properties throughiut the world.

I am not even considering the new benefit of noon check-in upon upon availability even a benefit. Anytime I have stayed at a luxury property or any other hotel, if the room was available, I got it.

I agree with you. When there was availability the room was mine. In fact I even received the room upgrade at noon on two occasions. That was nice.

    +1

I can't think of a property in the program where you couldn't check in at 8am if a room was available.

When a hotel refuses to give me my room even though it is obviously available, I make a mental note to never return to that property. One Italian chain is notorious IME for having housekeeping suddenly finish all rooms at precisely their check in time. What a joke and what a bad way to treat customers when doing the right thing would not even cost them much if anything at all. Never again will I stay inane of their hotels.

I just love Amex marketing tricks. They are loosing a lot of cardmembers.

While this is clearly a gimmick, in general, they've upped the ante on the Platinum Card in the last two years. I've had the card for over a decade and get a lot of value out of it.

I would disagree. Amex definitely trying, but the benefits before were much more better IMHO and the fee was less. Few come to mind: Transfer points to CO, access of CO lounges, 2 for 1 airline tickets,

Wait a second... Continental breakfast for two? I thought it was full breakfast. That sounds like some hotels could get really stingy with that.

Since I has been a Platinum cardmember, FHR always included a continental breakfast. However, at many, but not all properties I was offered full breakfast up to a certain $ amount.

One of the stringy ones that comes to mind is Venetian in Las Vegas. You used to get a pre-fix breakfast and not able to substitute anything. Do not know about this year.

It's been a continental breakfast for up to two people for as long as I can remember, at least a quarter century. The property can decide whether it's room service, restaurant, lounge, buffet, or your choice. Properties can do more if they wish. Some hotels give a full, hot, or English breakfast as the special amenity instead of another meal, high tea, a massage, etc.
