Hagdan Sa Pag-uswag Foundation Inc (HSPFI), a field partner in the Philippines has been placed under watch by Kiva and Kiva is not posting any loans from this FP until the loan delinquencies has been addressed.

I wonder how many Kiva Milepointers are affected by this situation.

I have six HSPFI loans that are delinquent for $ 68.32.

Just two, $38.75 in arrears, and followed the "ASI model" I have noted previously ($0.00 total repayments).

Through good luck only 25 of my 182 Philippines loans are with HSPFI; of which only 1 has an outstanding balance, for a whopping 1.25. That is under 0.001% - I won't be losing sleep over it.

8 loans (I was mistaken when I originally said 13) and $60. 3 were just starting to pay back.

I did receive word from Kiva that this was an "institutional-level delinquency that we're continuing to work through. Our hope is to provide another update in the next couple of weeks, so I'll be sure to pass it along as soon as possible."

Looks like I am the winner so far :(

I got into most of my loans right before they stopped paying.

I am still hopeful that this will resolve and we (lenders and borrowers) will win in the end.

I am quite fond of loans to the Philippines for they do represent the heart of microfinance support, this current hiccup, while frustrating, has not been indicative of the Kiva loans by MFIs in the Philippines.

0 delinquent HSPFI loans for me.
Scaled back my Kiva lending a bit this year...

Sorry about that, normally I am one to hop on the bandwagon.

2 delinquencies, which owe $8.75 each. I expect that they will pay back eventually. Sometimes we just need to be patient...................

Do the math on that second one. Looks like you lent $25.01.

    (I know, it's a rounding error).

A similar thing happened a couple of years ago with SEDA in Vietnam. Months of no payments, steadily growing arrears, very little communication from Kiva. Eventually, it was all resolved and the payments flooded in. SEDA is once again a reliable and popular field partner.

The one thing I wish Kiva might have learned from the SEDA saga is that it pays to keep people informed.

Yup. If this had happend six months earlier, shortly after I joined Kiva, and if I didn't have a "support group" here, I think something like this would have the potential to drive me away from Kiva.

I have tightened my selection criteria and increased my diversification (no more "let's pick every $200 I can find in the Philippines" lendathon session anymore).

    Amen!
One of the reasons that i am doing so much more lending on Kiva Zip than on Kiva is that I get quick responses to my questions and suggestions on Kiva Zip. I can't remember the last time I got a positive, helpful or quick response from Kiva.

21 delinquent loans with HSPFI. A total of $329.90 in arrears.

I didn't notice the April 26, 2013 status update posted by Kiva until sometime in June. I would have appreciated them communicating it better.

That's a good attitude to have.

My concern isn't so much the amount of money I stand to lose, but the health of the Field Partner and the capacity to continue doing the good work that HSPFI has been doing. Loss of some microfinance capacity would hurt those who need it.

And, yes, if I had the repayments I could also relend to a dozen more clients and continue to put that money to good use.

I'm also a little concerned that delinquency seems to be up overall, which make me wonder if perhaps Kiva has expanded too quickly, and is getting ahead of its own capacity to monitor the field partners.

Just a reminder - recently I had a loan pay off that was 17 months delinquent. I, too had written it off (mentally), and had even written Kiva about it a couple of times. Sometimes these things take many months to work out.
