AA's promo system works on the back end, not the front end, i.e. they will let ANYONE register for a promo and send a confirmation email, but if you are not part of the target group you aren't eligible and they determine that afterwards. Unless you actually get promo invitation emails in your inboxes, I'd strongly suggest avoiding planning any travel specifically around this travel. But if you already have plans/itineraries, no harm in registering. But, as Gary states on his post, do not expect anything. :)

I am Chairman on US did not receive this email but do you think if I called they may include me on this as a way to "challenge" for EXP?

No one here would be able to answer this definitively. Best to call, ask, and report your results back here when you get your response.

It's worth a shot and never hurts to ask, right? Though some might say if you wait long enough you might get status matched to EXP via merger instead. ;)

I'm not too confident on AA saying yes to your request though. Let us know?

Right - I registered for that other good promo, got the confirmation email, but never got the benefits. But if there's no downside, I'll keep trying.

With a trip to Europe and Asia in this window, it would be outstanding if it actually worked. Crossing fingers...

Not to mention everyone registering for target promos every other month with confirmation emails in their inboxes and yet no one ever seems to get lucky enough to slip past the promo targeting rules to reap the benefits. Can't stop people from dreaming I suppose!

To be fair, you could actually BE targeted, but the email could have gotten caught in a spam filter. So it's maybe a 1% chance, but with a good promo, it still makes sense to try.

I'm usually an optimist, and agree with the notion that it never hurts to try.

It might speak to AA's perception of the credibility of this group when it's perceived of as collectively encourging mass registration for a promo that those who, in their view, should know better, would not qualify for....if that makes sense..

So how would that play out? If they perceive us differently for applying for promos to which we weren't invited, what's the change in their actions?

That's really entirely different though. Not being aware of the invite vs actually not being invited. The "not invited" group, which is what this whole side discussion is ultimately about, still hasn't shown they'll make it past AA's promo police as far as I know.

This sucks... BUT it does make sense. So far I've missed every single targeted promo for 2 reasons:
    1. I don't live in TX or CA
    2. I fly wAAy too much

Over 55K EQMs on all personal travel... paying pretty high dollar for dollar but I'll just craw into a fetal position with a bottle of wisky and cry :/

#1 has disqualified you from a good non-targeted one also.

How is #1 not targeted? ;):D

I'm curious to know how you see #2 to be an issue for you? I'm normally think that flying more would mean more chance to take advantage of promos.

I took it to mean that he thinks AA's stance is: This guy is already a good customer, so we needn't target him for promos.

It looks like this HVC2C and 3C were targeted to Gold status only (no plat that I read about) as well as possibly some specific additional criteria we don't know.

I've flown 55K so far this year and have not been "invited" into nice promos including HVCAA. Perhaps, if I dropped to gold next year it would happen :)

Truly, it makes complete business sense:
Increasing profitability on current customers that will reach higher tier independently of offers is way less expensive then converting new ones.

On Flyertalk I've seen a few PLTs listed as receiving similar offers. But yes, if you're already a high value customer, they're not going to target you with a promo that would essentially discourage you from flying by giving you that coveted status early. Which is too bad because it would solve my issue about how to get to 100K by the end of the year since I have so much award travel booked. First world problems. :)

Indeed... apparently one of the possibilities is if you are a UA MP/GS customer:

Think there is any chance they would match a US chairman? I'm going to call tomorrow and try
