I never recognize anybody, but my son and husband always spot celebrities on planes.

Tonight while we were at the gate before our flight SEA/BUR, I spent some time chatting with a charming older gentleman as we waited for our delayed plane to arrive. When we were finally boarding the plane, my son joined us and recognized my chat mate as Hal Holbrook.

He is really in amazingly good shape for a man of 86. I was impressed.

Not seatmates, but saw Al Roker (and wife/kids) at the LGA DL Crown Room Club a few years ago, and Jim Gaffigan (and wife/kids/nanny) in the LGA UA terminal. Both the Rokers and Gaffigans were on my flights to ATL and ORD, respectively. Also chatted with Warrick Dunn when he was with the Falcons on the train at ATL. VERY nice guy. The Champ (Evander Holyfield) also spotted at ATL a few years back.

I sat across from Adam Savage (MythBusters) in F DTW-SFO one time. Very nice guy, signed an autograph on my boarding pass!

Years ago I sat behind Stevie Wonder on a flight out of Detroit.

You see lots of Canadian celebrities out of Toronto, but most of the participants on this board wouldn't know them.

A few years back, I sat next to Al Sharpton on a UA flight from ORD to LGA.

I thought it best to just say good morning...

Delta flight out of LAX me and a friend were on, a bunch of WWE stars. Only one I knew was Gold Dust. My friend was pointing some of them out to me outside, and then they ended up on our flight. A couple were the women wrestlers. Gold Dust is pretty decent size guy, (or I'm just small). He spit on the ground outside when he walked by us, I felt it shake [IMG]

edit. Although not a celebrity I did see a guy get arrested at the gate for evasion of child support. Not good for him at all, but it was cool to see it go down. The guy had no idea there were undercovers around him, he was on his way to FL and owed over $20,000. They had to bring him out in a wheelchair he was so shocked.

While not on a plane, Brittney Spears, Mick Fleetwood, John Stamos and Trevor Linden at the FS on Maui a couple of years back.

    Did Al reply?

I remember getting on a flight, had been upgraded and was fist to board, or so I thought. I was in 1B, in 2B was a young African American male standing, dressed in a nice suit with a bow tie & white shirt. I thought he looked like a Minister Louis Farrakhan supporter/member. I sat down, the young guy, not once. After everyone was boarded, a limo w/police escort pulled up next to the ladder that goes up from the tarmac to the skybridge. Sure enough there comes Louis who then gets on the plane and exchanges quiet words with the young man, then takes a seat in 2B. Very quiet flight. Then upon landing in Atlanta, louis gets off first and walks down the ladder to another waiting limo and police escort. When we finally deplane, there must have been 100 of the bow tie wearing supporters in the terminal.

Probably all my noteworthys have been in F, hmmm.

Steve Forbes a few times, once with his wife when I used to fly to Iowa, he was campaigning, really great guy to speak with, same goes for his wife.

A few others but those two were the most memorable with the exception of flying with Randy from JFK to Orly[IMG].

Sitting near the gate waiting for a WN TPA-FLL flight was 12 or so WWF (now WWE) stars. I remember a little kid running around getting everyone's autograph... after he got The Big Show's autograph, he went back to him and asked him what did he write on his paper, becasue he couldn't read it .... the wrestler snorted back, "it says The Big Show, you little peckerhead."

Lots of wrestlers on flights out of Tampa, they all seem to live here.

Back in the early sixties I was sitting in coach next to a young black teenager (I was a slightly older teenager). When the captain announced that the clouds were especially beautiful today, this boy turned to me and said, "Tell me about the clouds". I responded, "You have the window seat, you tell me about the clouds".

He then proceeded to tell me that he was blind, so I leaned over him, looked out the window, and told him about the clouds. Later in the flight he pulled out a life magazine and started pointing at pictures of himself and telling me about them. Lord did that boy love to talk. It turned out he was Little Stevie Wonder.

After a while a man (who turned out to be his manager) came up and told me that, if he (Stevie, who talked all of the time) became annoying, to just tell him to let my ears rest. :)

Nice experience, especially as the years went by and he became increasingly more famous.

Yeah, I seem to see him a couple times a year .... there is a salad bar place called sweet tomatoes right near his establishments and at Bucs games.

Chewed the fat with Mr. Ten Feet Tall and Bulletproof on an ATL-BNA DL segment in F. Former Steeler QB (#12) was sitting in the row behind us.

Schmoozed and snoozed on a LAS-ATL DL red-eye in F with Miss Midnight Train to Georgia (Pipless).

  20. Kristi Yamaguchi from CDG-IAH and Aziz Ansari on a flight to Vegas. A friend of mine that I was traveling with once said he saw Holyfield at LAX but I didn't see him.

About 20 years ago, as Dave Johnson and Dan O'Brien were preparing to compete in the decathlon at the upcoming 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona, and starred in a popular series of commercials to promote the games and Reebok, I sat down in an F bulkhead seat on DL to go from someplace in the western US to Atlanta. A young, tall, athletic-looking guy sat down next to me. I took out my early Macintosh portable and started working on it. He was interested, saying it would come in handy for his graduate studies because he travels a lot. I showed it to him and pointed out one possible problem: it weighed 16 pounds.

Turns out it was Johnson. He threw a 16-pound weight on a regular basis, as part of his job, further than a lot of people could carry it. Very nice guy; we chatted for the rest of the flight about all sorts of things, exchanged business cards at the end. Haven't been in touch with him since, though.
