In my experience Fairmont Presidents Club doesn't status match.

But when you request the match, they give you a consolation prize: a suite upgrade certificate.

Last year I grabbed the Fairmont Royal York as part of the United Vacations glitch ($600 off on a booking for two people). Fairmont had a stay 2 get 3rd night free. And it included breakfast.

Well, of course as a Fairmont Presidents Club member I got free internet. I requested a match, used a confirmed suite upgrade for the 3 day stay.

mrs. gleff and I had two roundtrip non-stop tickets, 3 nights at the hotel, we were out of pocket a total of less than $400. [IMG]

Great deal... I find Fairmont to be quite accomodating. For me I just asked for the status due to an upcoming stay and after they went away and thought about it for five minutes it was granted without a second thought (mind you not Plat. but still).

I've tried to match from RA and got a run around answer and never got anything.

Did you ask for Premier status just because of the upcoming stay or by a status match? Either way, sounds great -- I may need to try the same thing!

  5. I'd also be interested if FPC Premiers or Plats were able to get status match with other programs and, if so, how you went about getting the match

Amex platinum has an offer with fairmont right now to stay 5 nights and get platinum status. Call Amex to register. It's not a status match but it's as low as it goes for platinum.

That´s interesting. There were several folks on FT whose requests were declined as they had the US AMEX Plat card.

I read that on FT too but I called to try anyways and they said they registered me. I'll post after I complete my 5 nights (I thought it was stays but I believe it is actually only 5 nights) in march to confirm that it went through. You have to charge all 5 nights to your Amex plat card though for it to work.

Thank´s! I can definitely confirm that it´s five nights, not five stays. There also was some discussion whether only the AMEX Plat charge card is eligible, or also co-branded CCs.

I had gold on SPG but I started to ask because I'd had a few stays and they gave it to me, then I mentioned a stay I had coming up before March and then gave me the current year as well...

I did something similar through my Dinners Mastercard for Premier Status after 3 stays (ignore the dates below, it's still valid, the website is just out of date and they haven't corrected it since I pointed it out to them a year ago).

As a Diners Club Cardmember, you can achieve Premier status in Fairmont President's Club after only 3 stays at a Fairmont Hotels & Resorts property made between January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007 (instead of the normal requirement of 5 stays). Premier status entitles you to benefits such as:
    • complimentary room upgrade
    • complimentary suite upgrade
    • complimentary third night
    • $50 USD in dining certificates
    • and much more!

    Cheers,

FWIW it is worth I tried to register for platinum challenge today as I am starting a 4 day stay at the Whistler Fairmont. US AMEX Platinum customer service said no dice that it is only open to Canadian AMEX Platinum holders.

I would still be very careful. I have had friends who similarly registered with an American - American Express Plat card met the five night requirement but were still denied The Platinum status.

I am not sure who set up the promotion (Fairmont or American Express) but IMHO it is poor judgement given that the fees are the same, that the hotels are very proximate across the border, etc that there be a two tiered system on this benefit.

  17. I've seen this benefit mentioned on FT several times and it referred only to Canadian card holders - It's not mentioned anywhere on the website when I log in (US plat card holder) but I'll call tomorrow as well to see if I can get any traction. As part of the recent lifetime platinum debacle from living social I have no plans on staying at a Fairmont again unless this would be a perk and it doesn't seem right that it would be a two tiered system...!!!??
To that end are there any threads on little or unknown perks for different things like this - i.e. the plat status for 5 nights and amex plat bene's that may not be that well known???

  18. Following up from my previous post - it amazes me how little info you get for 450.00 for signing up for one of these cards (amex plat)

Wdmonet would you please bring us up to date on what you discover? Thanks!

  20. Just got off the phone with Amex platinum card services, membership rewards, and premier travel - all of them say that the fairmont promotion is neither a benefit nor a promotion going on now for US cardholders - and wouldn't comment on if it's an option for Canadian members.

  21. I'm assuming you're a Canadian amx plat???

many people have called over the years about this, each time it was clarified that it was only for canadian amex platinum members.

  23. I'm a little confused what did you ask status match from - spg platinum???

  24. If either AMEX or Fairmont read these blogs they would be well served to apply this to the US cardholders as well - our favorite properties from fairmont are north of the border so y'all would get a little more of our green and heck I'd even bury the hatchet and start staying with them again...[IMG]

  25. I am US Plat card holder and I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with AMEX. I spoke to a general cardmember specialist, membership rewards, and travel and they were all completely clueless as to any such offer. Does anyone have a promotion number or something?
