A Federal Aviation Administration safety alert warns several airlines and flight attendants have reported coffee filter packages bursting in flight.

NBC News said the packages have caused first and second-degree burns to crew members and bystanders.

In the warning issued last week, the FAA said the filters are susceptible to pressure buildup and may explode when the attendant lifts the coffee pot to pour a cup.

CNN said water can become blocked from dripping into the coffee pot below when a filter is placed incorrectly in the coffee maker.

Perhaps when their investigators are done with the 787 they can look at what went wrong in the design of those coffee filters.

Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be an boilworthyness directive for my home Nespresso machine, so it will continue to operate on schedule.
