    I wouldn't use the word "shattered" which implies a breach of the window allowing the free flow of air. It was just a crack, like your car windshield, and didn't loose integrity.

    Modern airliners are equipped with triple pane windshields if I'm not mistaken, for added safety. But this is a serious issue that appears to have been going on for a while.
