So I was upgraded on my return leg today for PHX-SEA and when I logged on to make sure my flight wasn't delayed and to see if I had a seatmate on the way down tonight. My return flight had already put me in 2D before I had got the upgrade confirmed email.:D This was about 10am then at 4pm today I just got the email. Interesting how it took 6+ hours to notify me.

No complaining or anything in this post just curious if this normally happens to others?

Yes, it happens from time to time. The upgrade sweeps are not the same system that write and send the mail. Plus, a planned/unplanned outage of the US email system, your mail system, or any one of dozens of machines that the mail must cross can delay delivery.

Often, often, often. What I don't get is that sometimes I get preassigned row 1, and sometimes I don't get preassigned, and when I go to the site to assign a seat, row 1 is xed out.

Row 1 AC is held back for handicapped access; occasionally you'll get A or C if someone already assigned to D/F requests a switch. I thunk one of the A/C seats is sellable and assignable though, and the other always stays unassigned till OLCI. even if someone pays for the F seat, almost always, if you're in F and have no seat assignment and can't get one, you'll be in 1a.

1A is what you want to get on the A319 - due to the power plug.
I've been able to ask to switch to it at the airport the night before a flight.

Really? There is a working power plug on 319's in this row? What kind of plug?

It's a standard wall socket, used for aircraft grooming.

It's down by the floor on the left wall behind a plastic cover.
It has consistently been on every West A319 that I've travelled on. Not sure about East equipment.
