Edit: It has been confirmed JAL will raise YQ to Zone G on June 1 (JAL International Fare Fuel Surcharge from June to July 2011) JAL and ANA both calculate their fuel surcharge based on the 2-month Singapore Kerosene price average. (http://www.jal.co.jp/en/other/info2006_0714_3.html) For the upcoming revision of YQ in June, it is determined by the average from Feb to March, which is in the USD120-130 range. Therefore, if JAL stick to the existing scheme despite weak demand in international travel to Japan, we will see YQ to increase from Zone E to Zone G for tickets issued on or after June 1 2011. USD288 for longhaul YQ hasn't reached JAL YQ's historical high yet. The highest I have seen was between Oct 1-Dec 31 2008. That's the one time JAL did not follow the scheme to increase the YQ (average falls in zone K but they only increase to zone I due to low demand) Since NH raised theirs to USD288, I don't expect JAL not to follow...but you never know and it's good to have hope or at least we can dream about it But issue or at least book your tickets now so you can issue ASAP once the increase is confirmed.
