Just got this email from AA:
Looks like it's official in that case. Branding changes were noted awhile back but at the time there was no official nod to those changes, and no information besides what was passed on by JonNYC on TB, though it sounds like it's essential the same song and dance, just a new name.

I'm more confused than ever. What's the difference in Preferred and Preferred Plus? And this still doesn't include the airport controlled seats (i.e. Row 7/8 on the Mad Dogs), right?
Same seats but if it's Plus you got it as an elite and if it's just Preferred you got it because you paid for it 24 hours beforehand?
Also, does this mean they'll be processing more upgrades at/before the 24 hour mark instead of rolling them to the airport list? I'd think that every upgrade you process is very likely to free up a Preferred Plus seat for someone to purchase as a Preferred seat 24 hours beforehand or at OLCI...
Don't worry... it's just a tactic to make money!!!
All this begs the question why should anybody here care?
Has "aa paranoia" completely set in ?
Elites are exempt and able to select the same seats as before....read and you shall become wiser
It's the AA forum, of course we're gonna report and chat about all the little things.
I agree that the link in the OP is pretty clear about the program though.
Although most of us are elites and aren't affected, some of our non-elite co-workers, family members etc caould well be impacted. I'm guessing that several of us act as the "designated airline expert" in our circle of friends and associates, and therefore, it can be important to understand newly-announced changes, even those that won't impact our own flying.
Did you mean to reply to newbluesea? He's the poster who commented that he was puzzled as to why anyone would care.
Preferred Plus is available to Elite's free prior to 24 hour check in.
Preferred is available to all at 24 hours.
Preferred seat pool will probably include some seats that aren't being given as part of Preferred Plus, but will probably include aisle seats (pure guess on my part) but maybe not bulkheads or crew rest seats.
I do not think it's paranoia...but I have coworkers and family members who come to me for advice regardless of which carrier they are flying. While this does not really impact elites, I agree with wurm.
This is still pretty flaky.
I was booked on an MD-80 in December, and our 9AB seats are not so desirable any more. Moved back to an exit row. Did the same on the return. I checked just a minute ago and I was back in 9AB. I don't see a 'save' button on the screen, so I don't know what happened.
I just repeated the process and the change didn't take.
Anybody know how to save?
NEVER MIND - there's a tiny 'Submit' button you have to hit.
