I don't know if this has been posted already, or if I'm posting in the right place...

but thought I'd report on this. Availability throughout the year .. I've never been to Singapore and its >20,000 MQMs

I booked 11/7 -11/11, but am thinking of adding another day

Airfarewatchdog did a full search, and reported that the lowest rate it found is $690

This is only for DL correct? I'm hoping AA or UA/CO will match soon..

There were sub 1000 fares to SIN about a week ago. Wondering if this isn't DL's response. Hoping that UA comes back with a counter fare! :)

so you'd have 2 full days in SIN, which is very small, 3 would be nice if you've never been.
agreed. I've only flown to SIN on UA, if flying on AA, one has to connect in NRT to a JAL flight to SIN, correct? (or is there another routing for AA/OW to SIN)

    It's a small country. ;)

CX via HKG is a viable option at present.

MH is expected be a OW partner later this year. http://www.oneworld.com/news-information/oneworldnews/details/?objectID=25793 They'd be an easy connection via KUL.

If you are a foodie SIN is awesome with all the Hawker centers, the night zoo is nice, but it is small and quite HOT and HUMID...

You could surely fly AA to NRT and then connect on CX to HKG and connect further on CX HKG-SIN. Or just take one of the CX non stops from North America to HKG and connect on CX to SIN. I would personally rather use CX than JAL but YMMV.

For the DL fare, I don't think there is an EWR-NRT nonstop, so that one would be forced to route through DTW, MSP, etc. Currently the MSP and ATL flights are the 777. Also, IIRC, the ATL flight number continues to SIN as a direcct flight, which of course means that you would lose some miles. NRT-SIN is also the 777, or at least was a month or two ago. There's also JFK-NRT, IIRC on the nonreconfigured 747, but I don't believe there is an EWR-JFK connecting flight and exJFK tickets probably price differently.

Singapore is very nice city. As with most metropolis, cost of living is high and just be prepared to pay for thing that you want. If you are into food, you can try this website, www.hungrygowhere.com (local version of yelp). Should try to stay in the Marina Bay sands hotel, they have a open air swimming pool on the 60th floor. Views are amazing.

After living in HKG/Taiwan and Japan, Singapore is just so manufactured; an 'Asia Light' if you will.

At under $750, if there was a match on UA, I wouldn't even leave SIN. So it can be as light as they want. :)

Thats ok, you just have to get creative on getting to a "larger city." I don't live near EWR but still made it work.

Ok, so I booked the EWR-SIN trip for 11/6 to 11/11 for $730. Now the dumb question is - if there is any way in hell (short of handing out $5,000) to get upgraded on the int'l flights?

I'm only a silver medallion (this trip will make me gold for next year).

and now I have this silly idea of doing the trip again a week later 11/23 -11/25 (with a 17 hour layover in tokyo) so I can be platinum next year....

DL upgrades into BE using miles or SWUs require M B or Y fares on international, probably around $5000 RT TATL. You would pay the fare difference plus a change fee, probably $250. You can purchase EC seats for legroom and free drinks; top tier elites can reserve these seats for free from any coach fare.
